Much like everyone else I was not immune to the Cyber Monday sales this year. I had been contemplating the JCREW Chateau parka but the price was a bit much and it was never included in any of the sales. When the beautiful red sold out in my size I decided to take a look at the JCREW Vail Parka instead.
JCREW Vail Parka Review:
The Vail Parka has a generous A-line shape that makes it easy to layer sweaters underneath. While the colour offering is more limited in the Factory version I was drawn to the camel colour (aka Saddle) because it was a classic shade that would never go out of style.
The gold hardware makes this coat extra glam and the zipper is substantial and of good quality so you shouldn’t have any issues zipping it up!
While this coat does come in petite I stuck to regular sizing. The sleeves are slightly long on me but that is better than the alternative of them being much too short. Also the hood on this coat is deep. If I was a couple of inches taller I don’t know that it would be so obvious but when the hood is up I am almost lost inside.
While the sizing is generous and many recommend to size down I stuck with my usual size at JCREW as I knew I wanted to layer sweaters of varying weights underneath. Also If you have an ample bra size you are going to want to stick with you usual size as this coat is generous it is not over-sized especially not in the chest area.
JCREW Vail Parka vs. JCREW Chateau Parka
The major differences between these two coats is all in the details. The Chateau Parka has extra details like the zip angle pockets and more seaming on the arms. Also the Factory Vail Parka seen above is a wool blend versus the pure wool Chateau parka.
All of these details were not a make or break for me as I want to be able to quickly stick my hands in the angle pockets so they would unlikely be zipped ever and I like the softness of the wool blend. The extra seaming on the arms runs the risk in shorter women to be at the wrong spot on the arms (much like moto jeans never seem to work for me) so the JCREW Factory Vail Parka works for me.
The one comparison where the Chateau Parka really raises the bar is the faux fur trim which is more substantial and fuller looking. This might also be because I ordered the Vail Parka online and the faux fur trim was a bit smooshed when it arrived out of the box. In order to fluff it up a bit I simply combed it back into place.
The faux fur is removable but then you have the gold buttons showing, personally I will keep mine in place.
Outfit details: Coat JCREW Vail Parka, denim Madewell, Boots Sperry (read my Sperry White water Boot Review), plaid shirt Banana Republic, hat Joe Fresh, bag Opelle.
What do you think of the JCREW Vail Parka Review? Is this a coat you would buy? Or do you prefer the Chateau Parka instead?

Hey
Thanks for the review fellow Canadian. I just bought the chateau parka in grey but was wondering if I should go with the factory version in saddle. I didn't have a chance to go to a factory store to try on yet.

You are so welcome - the colour is really lovely and if you are looking for a camel colour there isn't really an option in the Chateau parka this year.
