Living Proof Hair Products Review

living proof hair products review

Back when I was a newish blogger I was invited to a Salon in Toronto and I was introduced to Kevin Murphy hair products. It was a transformative experience because I have never gone back to regular drug store shampoo since. The key thing with these shampoos is that they are free from so many of the ingredients that normal shampoos have and the result is lighter feeling healthier hair. These shampoos are also excellent for coloured hair.

My issue with Kevin Murphy is that it isn’t easy to access as it is only (or mostly) sold in salons. I have from time to time found it on Amazon but most of the time it is double the price and I am not going there.

I have heard many people rave about Living Proof Perfect Hair Day shampoo and it seemed from the description to be similar to the Kevin Murphy Shampoos so I decided it was time to give it a try. You can see from my pictures that the bottles are well used at this point. I have had these bottles for a few months and I am about half way through or so and feel like I can share my experience with Living Proof.

Living Proof Hair Procuts Review: Perfect Hair Day Shampoo & conditioner

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Shampoo is a gentle light weight shampoo that is free from Parabens, sulphates and phthalates. It claims to improve hair health over time, helps you wash less often, creates hair that is smoother, softer and shinier.

To be totally real and honest I really didn’t like this shampoo right away. I didn’t love the smell. It isn’t overpowering at all and is a light citrusy scent but it wasn’t doing anything for me in the beginning. I have grown to like it, but it took time. I also found at first that the shampoo left my hair feeling really dry on the ends. I am used to more moisturizing shampoos and this one isn’t that moisturizing. Thank goodness that the conditioner is very intensively moisturizing as it basically reversed how my hair felt after the wash.

After about two weeks of use and also after colouring my hair I really started to like the results with this shampoo. It took time to see the improvements and really notice that I was having consistent good hair days with this shampoo and conditioner combination. I have been using Living Proof Perfect Hair Day shampoo and conditioner since January and these are my takeaways about the product.

  1. Give it time for your hair to get accustomed to it. I found after a few weeks that my hair felt healthier than when I started using it.
  2. I still wash my hair every day. However I do find on the weekend I can go without washing my hair without feeling like a total greaseball.
  3. I do feel that this shampoo and conditioner gives consistent good hair days. It leaves my hair feeling light, soft and clean.

I would like to try the Restore version as from the reviews it is more hydrating and my hair really needs that.

Living Proof Hair Products review: Blowout

This product is a styling spray that promises a faster easier blowout and locks in your style. I however didn’t really like this product. It was very fragrant. Unlike the shampoo which has a light scent this is more perfumey. It is also more like a hair spray than a styling spray. I was expecting something that is more smoothing as opposed to giving grip. I like that it had heat protection but it was too sticky. I prefer something more lightweight and I don’t like the texture of hair spray in my hair. If you are looking for hold you might like this but personally for my blow out I prefer this from Bumble and Bumble.

Living Proof Hair Products Review: Full Thickening Mousse

I have fine hair but lots of it. I like to play up volume and I really forgot how much I like mousse. This one smells nice without being overpowering. A little goes a long way. You don’t really need that much to get loads of volume. This one I recommend.

Living Proof Shampoo vs Kevin Murphy

Both Living Proof and Kevin Murphy shampoos are free from sulphates, parabens, phthalates etc etc. Both do take time for your hair to acclimatize to and you have to get used to the fact that they don’t lather up like regular shampoos.

Both leave your hair feeling light and swingy and lead to more good hair days on average. When I buy the big bottles both last about 6 months making the cost per wash pretty close to what you would pay with cheaper bottles that you buy more frequently.

However in the end I prefer Kevin Murphy over Living Proof because I adore the rich smell of the Kevin Murphy shampoos. They smell more luxurious.

That being said I like Living Proof enough that I am willing to give it another try with the restore option over the perfect hair day shampoo for something more hydrating. Living Proof is more easily accessible because you can order it off Sephora as opposed to having to find it in a salon.

What do you think? Have you tried Living Proof?

Hello

I too have been using the same shampoo and conditioner for over a year now and love how it makes my hair feel.

I recently purchased the mousse but I'm not so keen on that as I can "feel the product" in my hair, so I won't repurchase.

I've enjoyed looking through your blog today.

Thanks for coming! I find mousse can be tricky as it is easy to use too much product.
