I am not one to get super dressed up during the Holidays. Considering how often I read that same sentence on other blogs I gather that most people don’t have to wear a gown for a family gathering on Christmas day.
Still it is a festive occasion. And you want to honor the magic that is Christmas. So I have 5 ways to to take your regular outfit from everyday to Christmas ready.
Outfit 1: top/jeans/boots, Outfit 2: sweater/jeans/necklace/necklace/heels, Outfit 3: top/trousers/necklace/necklace, Outfit 4: sweater/jeans/necklace/cuff/sparkle heels
So the whole idea of today’s post is to take a regular casual outfit, say jeans and a sweater or blouse, and make it Christmas-y. I have five ways to make that happen.
1. Wear festive colours
The most obvious colours to pull out of your closet is red or green. But really gold and silver are great options as well. Colourful silk blouses or chunky cable knits are both great ways to go here. Even colourful cords and a neutral top. Or go all out an try a tone on tone look.
2. Wear plaid
Ok not all plaids are created equal in this option but a plaid with red and white at the very least, but add some green for the perfect holiday mix. Layer this under a sweater or wear it on it’s own. Not into plaid shirts? Why not try plaid pants? There are a bunch of fab options this year and they come off one part preppy one part edgy. Check out how I styled my plaid pants here.
3. Pile on the Baubles
Ok so a plaid shirt and jeans on it’s own might not feel overly festive. Especially say you are going home to the farm and that is what your dad wears to the barn. But you know what takes anything overly casual to fun? Lots of costume jewellery. I love layering a couple of sparkly necklaces that can increase the statement factor.
If you are doing alot of colour elsewhere in your outfit go with some clear baubles to add a wintery effect.
4. Add some Sparkle
Sparkle makes everything special right? You can do a little (embellished belt or some fab sparkly heels) or alot (top off your outfit with a sparkly blazer)
5. Try Brocade
Ok so lets say you don’t want to do sequins or colour. If you do a brocade blazer, or brocade jeans and keep everything else simple you can have a festive look without going to cliche (ie wearing red and green together). Pair this with a metallic heel (or those fab booties shown above) and you have a knock out outfit in the making.
How do you update your style for the Holidays? Or do you go all out with a cheesy Christmas Sweater?
