Tweedy Goodness

jcrew tweed top coat, yellow coat for fall

If there is one coat in my closet right now that just screams autumn this is it. Although if you ask my kids it looks like a cob of corn. I am going with the autumn turning leaves thing though.

Daphne Tweed Topcoat Jacket review

The style of jacket I have on is called the Daphne Topcoat in Tweed. It comes in in three colours, black tweed, green tweed and the yellow I am wearing. The yellow looks brighter on the JCREW website than it does in real life. It is a darker more autumnal colour as opposed to a lighter more summery yellow.

The coat is  lighter weight than other JCREW coats that I have, although apparently heavier than the boiled wool version of the Daphne Topcoat. I would say this coat wouldn’t be warm enough for the dead of a Canadian winter but if you are somewhere that doesn’t get really cold this coat would be a good option. For me this is more like an early winter or end of winter coat. For the transition season but when a trench coat is not warm enough.

I love that this coat has so many other colours flecked throughout. It really makes the coat have some beautiful visual interest.

I saw another blogger wearing the green version with a red turtleneck layered underneath and it was the PERFECT Christmas combo. If you aren’t into the yellow I would go for the green.

Another reason why I wouldn’t consider this a true winter coat (at least for not where I live) is that I can only layer thin knits underneath. The cut of the coat is quite tailored which I like because it gives a great shape. However it also means that there isn’t much room in the arms for chunky knits.

The closure is a bit higher than the natural waist. It kind of reminds me of this coat in a way because the button placement is a bit unfortunte for anyone with curves but making the button placement lower would have made the coat more fit and flare. I like how the coat is a straighter cut with a bit of a nip above the waist.

What do you think? Are you into yellow? Would you choose another colour?

How would you say the sizing is on this coat? True to size or size down?

I would say this coat is true to size. I am in my usual size in this coat. I wouldn't wear chunky knits with it however as the sleeves are pretty tailored. Not much room for a thick knit.

It was perfect for fall! Ours is already over though and we have snow. I have to figure out how to style it when the leaves aren't popping the same or complementary colours.
