Sezane’s trench coat or the Scott Trench as it is called is a coveted item that sells out constantly. It is one of those cool french it girl items that begs to be in everyone’s wardrobe. I added this trench coat to my closet in navy since it was a colour I was missing and it has quickly become my most worn trench coat. Find out why with this Sezane Trench Coat Review.
Sezane Trench Coat Review
The Sezane Scott Trench is a 100% cotton trench made in Europe. It has a large lapel and contrast button details. Button epaulets on the shoulders and button details on the sleeve. There is a removable belt as well. The belt doesn’t have a buckle which makes tying the coat closed much easier.
The things that make this trench coat a must buy is the length, the collar and the button details.
Personally I like my trench coats longer. So many are short, just past the bum style. But the longer ones are more flattering and more protection if there is rain.
The back of the trench has a button detail instead of just a slit or a pleat. I leave mine mostly unbuttoned to accommodate my tush. It you are less ample in the bum area you would be able to leave more of the buttons closed. I didn’t feel any pulling when the buttons were closed. I prefer the a-line fit I get when the buttons are undone.
Cheap trench coats usually are usually fairly light weight. The Sezane trench is not. It has a heft to it that makes it feel more substantial. It is also warmer than my other trench coats.
My JCREW trench is a similar price but you can easily snag it on sale. Where as the Sezane one does not go on sale. I would say that the Sezane trench is a superior quality trench. There are more details on the Scott Trench and the material is thicker.
Fit wise I would say the Sezane trench coat is true to size. Everyone says Sezane fits small but that hasn’t been my experience. Trench coats are not meant to fit oversized but if you want extra room to keep the back buttons closed and extra room in the sleeves I would size up. Personally I prefer how my usual size fits. I wouldn’t be able to layer thick sweaters underneath this coat. However if it is cold enough for thick sweaters, I am not wearing a trench coat anyways.
What do you look for when you are shopping for a trench coat? Length? Good weight? Fit and details? The Sezane Scott trench coat has it all.

How heavy does this coat feel, at what temp would it be to warm?

It is a nice weight. Not super light and airy but doesn't feel super heavy like a wool trench would. It is lined. I wear this through spring and fall. I would say it is a good option for about 7 degrees Celsius to about 22 degrees Celsius.

Thanks so much for the info! May I ask how tall you are? I've been wanting to get this trench for quite a long time but I needed to see it on someone that is shaped like me. You are rocking it!! 🤍

Thank you! I am about 5'4 so on the cusp of petite sizing.

Hello! Thank you for your review. How would you say the fabric is like? I prefer a sort of stiff and durable fabric for trench coats on the outside and I'm worried that the fabric is soft and malleable

So I went back and looked up the composition and the Sezane trench is 100% cotton. But it is a Cotton Gabardine fabric. There is lots of structure to the coat but it has a silkier feel that some of the crisp cotton trenches I have from other retailers. The gabardine weave does make it water resistant though so more likely to be protective in the rain.

I would say the fabric is softer. It isn't a stiff cotton. But it is thicker and I would say durable. I have had mine for a few years now and it still looks good as new. It isn't a light and drapey type trench. There is some heft to it.

Can I ask what size you ended up with? I am slim at my waist and a little wider below, so I am really in doubt size-wise. If I look at Sezanes measurements I should have 42-44 but I am usually a size M og L like you. Thanks in advance.

I have the 44 which I think on the international website translates to a US 12? I am more of a Large these days and I think the 44 is a great fit. The trench doesn't fit as oversized as some of their winter coats do. It has more of a tailored fit. I also wanted to be able to fit a light knit underneath.
