Earlier this year I ordered a bunch of different eco friendly sustainable sneakers to try out. Some were horrible, others were ok and some were great. I knew from the get go I was going to like these Vejas. Mostly because I already liked the look of them. But the All Birds Tree Runners I wasn’t so sure about. They ended up being the dark horse winner of my affections. Sharing everything I love in my All Birds Tree Runners Review.
All Birds Tree Runners Review
All Birds sneakers are either made of wool uppers or tree fiber. The sole is made from sugar cane, they call it SweetFoam. Honestly I love that the sneaker was turned on it’s head and reinvented from the sole to the uppers. There is recycled polyester in the laces but the rest of the shoe is made of sustainable materials that will easily break down in nature.
I chose the Tree Runner as opposed to the Wool option because while I like the idea of a warm slipper type sneaker it didn’t make sense when I thought about it further. In Canada you don’t wear sneakers outside in the winter. It is just too cold. So I wanted something more light and breathable. Not that wool isn’t these things I just felt like the woven tree fibers would give me more of what I was looking for.
The All Birds Tree Runners are Treeno on the outside. It is a stretchy weave that moves with you. It is great for wide feet and if you have a bunion. The fabric is light. It looks kind of holey above. It isn’t though as the other side has a tight weave. So if you go sockless and it is a bit cool you won’t notice on your bare toes.
The insoles are removeable and replaceable. The upper part of the sole is wool so your feet feel soft and cozy. The heel is also wool. You can wash the All Birds Tree runner on delicate.
All Birds shoes are very sporty looking. Which is great if you are being sporty or going for a walk. However they aren’t my first choice if I am wearing an outfit other than atheliesure.
All Birds sneakers are known as the worlds most comfortable shoes. I can concur they are ridiculously comfortable. The insoles are soft and cozy. The mixture of the foam and the wool just makes the shoes feel like the sneaker equivalent of a slipper.
The sneakers I was wearing for sports and long walks before these were my Addias Air Boost. They are also super comfortable but they make my feet look huge. They are however shoes for actual running whereas the Tree Runners are not. But lets face it I don’t actually run! So having a comfortable lightweight running shoe that doesn’t exaggerate the size of a foot is great.
All Birds is true to size. I got a size 8 which is what I wear in other running shoes. Sometimes I wear an 8.5 if a shoe is really narrow fitting. All Birds recommends to size down if you are between sizes. I didn’t find width an issue with these shoes so don’t size up for wide feet.
All Birds actually came out with a true running shoe. The Tree Runner is more of an every day walking sneaker. I have worn them for long and short walks and even easy hikes in the trails behind our house.
