Sezane Bastien Jumper Review

I know what you are thinking. Another stripe sweater? But hear me out this one is different. Loose sleeves, wool not cotton and it is not chunky either. The Bastien Jumper is a great alternative to the more chunky James and the cotton Leontine. The Sezane Bastien Jumper review will share how this is not just another stripe knit.

Sezane Bastien Jumper Review

The Bastien sweater is a merino wool stripe knit. The stripe itself is one of my favourite styles in that there is actually not a full body stripe. I like when the stripes are complimented by white space.

The merino wool means that the sweater is not itchy. Sezane uses quite a bit of mohair and those sweaters tend to have some itch. This sweater has zero itch. But it isn’t super thin like many basic merino wool sweaters. It isn’t super thick and heavy but it isn’t a fine knit either.

The Bastien has a smooth knit. There are some cable details but they are more for fine detail. This detail is at the cuffs and hem mostly but there is a fine cable down the middle of the front.

But unlike the James which is very chunky because of the cable knit, this sweater is not chunky at all. In fact that is what drew me to the Bastien in that it would be better for layering.

Sezane describes this sweater as slightly oversized. But they also say that if you are between two sizes you should size up. Generally this is the advice they give when something is more fitted.

I would say this sweater is not oversized at all. I look XL thinking I would get something loose and drapey like on the model and I did not get that. The model is likely wearing a larger size to get that really loose look.

The sleeves are longer on this sweater, but I think that has more to do with the loose cuff. But the body is very straight cut. Which doesn’t really support the oversized descriptor. Sure it is not tight or too small. But you would have to make an effort to buy a larger size to get the really loose oversized look.

That said I don’t dislike this sweater. Once I got over the fact that the vibe on me is a bit different because I am curvy I quite like it. It layers well and is very warm without being bulky. I also feel like if I sized up one or two sizes the sleeves would end up being comically long so I prefer to stick with my usual size.

Overall this is a great addition to my stripe line up. It will be great through the winter and I think I will reach for it more than the James because it isn’t as thick. You don’t have to worry as much about which coat to wear with this knit.
