The Santa Claus Parade was this past weekend in Toronto and that means that Holiday Parties weather at work or at friends are right around the corner.
I actually think it is easier to dress for a formal event than something more low key like a Christmas lunch. Just pick out a fab dress in red, or emerald green and you are good to go. Even this years obsession with brocade or gold and black is perfect for the Holiday season.
But what do you wear to a work event; one that you will be sitting at your desk before and after the so called party? Or to a friends pot luck? Do you succumb to the dreaded Christmas sweater? Or just find the one red or green item you have in your closet and figure you are covered?
This year I want to break those last minute lame attempts at holiday dressing and go for something with sparkle.

The first set I created (see above) is a play on gold. I adore this sparkly top and if you have a warm complexion gold tones will compliment you much better than silver. I figured that for someone like me who spends most of their day in jeans would like this outfit because you get to keep your favourite outfit staple but just add a bit of holiday with the sparkle and the embellished shoe. I kept the accessories edgy so as to keep a downtown vibe.

The second set is how I would envision wearing a sequin blazer. I love a great jersey dress for any day of the week. But throw over the blazer and the outfit instantly screams holiday. The dress is easy to wear; effortless really. If you want to make the outfit a bit more edgy try a pair of booties instead of pumps.

The final outfit is a play on the traditional work outfit. How often do you wear trousers, a shell or blouse plus a blazer or cardi? All the time right? Well just switch out your usual top for one with sparkle or your usual blazer for something with velvet. I chose a blue velvet but you could easily do a deep cranberry or forest green. To avoid being too cliché or cartoony stay away from bright holiday reds and greens. Think luxurious. This way this velvet blazer can be something you pull out again and again – not just a Christmas only item.
What are you wearing for your Christmas and Holiday parties? I haven’t decided yet but I am inspired!
