Black Dress for a Wedding

My brother is getting married this weekend up at our cottage. I thought in honour of this event I would share an outfit I would wear if I was a guest at the wedding instead of in the bridal party!

One thing people always wonder is “Can I wear a black dress for a wedding?” The short answer is yes, of course! 

Think for most of us what holds us back from wearing black to a wedding is that we see weddings as jubilant affair as opposed to a funeral which we associate with wearing black. And I will admit I tend to pick colour over black for the weddings I have attended in the past.

But black is classic and I think that so many of us feel more comfortable and confident in the LBD; little black dress.

I have a new way of thinking through when it comes to wearing a black dress for a wedding. It is the event and atmosphere that makes it fun and happy not the dress you choose.

But you can make black more fun with the accessories you choose. I went with gold as my accent thereby adding sparkle I wouldn’t wear to a more somber affair.

I also think that the lace on this dress makes it appropriate for a wedding. The feminine detail adds a bit of whimsy and makes it more special than my simple black sheath dress that I wear to work or funerals.

Another way to style a black dress for a wedding is to add colour through your accessories. I could have just as easily worn a colourful pump or statement necklace to brighten up the black. Even switching out the leopard clutch for red or something in a floral would totally be wedding appropriate.
