Last weekend I spent some time clearing out old items out of my makeup bag. It was a mixture of old under used items that were long past their best before date and items I just didn’t like all that much anymore.
I used to be more into lip gloss now I prefer a matte lipstick. As we age our tastes change and what we actually carry in our makeup bag.
As I was going through this transition of sorts I realized I should really wear my makeup more often. I have never been one to HAVE to wear makeup. I mean some women won’t come downstairs without their face on but I have no problem going to work every day without anything on. But then why spend money on makeup at all? Well I told myself it was for events. When I was going out with friends or attending a wedding or something like that.
In order to justify my latest Sephora order I actually put makeup on every day this week. And you know what? I liked it. I always spent time in the morning doing my hair and then I was done. This past week I also spent an extra 5 minutes to put some tinted moisturizer on as a base, added some eye shadow, blush and mascara. It made a big difference for when I went to the washroom. Instead of looking at myself and thinking man I look tired I was actually pleased with my appearance.
So in honour of my new approach to makeup I am sharing what I bought at Sephora in the last few weeks.
April Sephora Haul
- NARS Pure Radiant Tinted moisturizer – If I am going to be honest I never really figured out foundation until I was in my late twenties. I really don’t like the feel of something on my face and the formulas of cheap foundations when I was growing up were just too heavy. Tinted moisturizer is more my speed. Since I can’t get enough of anything NARS I wanted to try out this tinted moisturizer. I ordered this in the shade CUBA which quite honestly is not a good shade for me right now. It is a bit too dark. But it will be ideal for when I am tanned in the middle of summer. This product has a sunscreen included and is pretty lightweight.
- BB Prep – I have shared this product a few different times on the blog. It is one of my go to hair products and I hate to be without it. I spray it on my damp hair before I comb it out. It is the bare minimum that I wear in my hair on a daily basis. There is a bit of a smell but it is light and fresh.
- Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil – I have a bit of a collection of these lip pencils going on. I tend to pick up a new shade just to avoid shipping costs. I picked up the shades Hyde Park and Famous Red. Famous red is a pinky red colour and Hyde park is a more berry shade. Hyde Park is actually the satin pencil. If I was to suggest some starter colours I would go with Dolce Vita and Dragon Girl.
- Monsieur Big Mascara – I wanted a new mascara that produced big lashes and this one does not disappoint. I say a noticeable difference from what I was used to without having to layer it up too much.
- CILS Booster XL Super enhancing mascara base – I had seen this recommended by a girl who has the biggest lashes. I thought hey I should totally try this out. My first reaction was wow my lashes are huge but also a bit clumpy. After a few more trys using this mascara base I would say take it easy with the product so your lashes don’t clump. I did try just the Monsieur Big mascara on its own and with the lash boost and the last boost did make a noticable difference.
- Nars Velvet Shadow Stick – I told you I can’t get enough of Nars! This is a creamy eye shadow in stick form that you can just glide over your eyelid, quickly blend with your finger and go. I have tried a few of these eye shadow pencils and I think this is my favourite. The shade I picked is Oxana is a great minky colour between a brown and a grey. Great for every day and buildable if you want to make a smokey eye without much effort. Very little shimmer in this version.
- Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye colour – basically the same as the Nars above but I got this in the rose gold. I think I prefer the Nars option because it is a colour I will wear more often but it also seemed to glide a bit better. Honestly though they are very similar but offer different colours.
- Becca Mineral Blush – The reviews are outstanding for this product. I think because it goes on sheer to start you don’t end up with clown cheeks that you have to blend out or you know wait to wear off. I got the Flowerchild colour which is exactly as described a pinky peachy colour. I like the idea of the wild honey too as I have been going with more peach tones on my cheeks lately as they tend to do well when I am at my winter white skin shade.
And that is it, everything I picked up from Sephora in the last few weeks. Really last few months as I haven’t bought anything from Sephora in a while.
I did also pick up a mineral sunscreen. I ordered a bunch off of Well too and I am planning a best mineral sunscreen post after our vacation.
Have you picked up anything from Sephora lately?
