Beautycounter is one of those brands that seems to be all over the influencer space. Quite a few bloggers seem to be sharing their beauty routines with Beautycounter products. It is one of those brands that I have been meaning to try. I tend to use many of the “clean” beauty brands more because my skin is sensitive and they tend to be ones that don’t cause me to break out. When my neighbour who is also into skincare came raving about Beautycounter I knew it was time to test it out for myself.
BEAUTYCOUNTER Canada Review
I ordered a number of different products directly from the Beautycounter website. One option I loved is that you can opt out of a Beautycounter representative from contacting you. So even though Beautycounter is an MLM you can shop it as if it is not one. Canadians can rest assured that you can shop in Canadian dollars and the shipping is fairly fast.
Price wise Beautycounter is on par with other clean brands like Drunk Elephant, Fresh and Origins.
Countertime Tetrapeptide Supreme Cream – This was the product my neighbour was raving about. She loved how it made her skin feel after using it. It is a rich, scent free night cream. It is supposed to improved skin firmness and all the anti aging stuff women my age tend to love. For me however it is just TOO Thick. It is the consistency of a body butter and my skin doesn’t need this level of moisturization on my face. If you have oily skin pass on this one. If you have dry skin you will likely love it. At this point it has become my very pricey hand cream.
Countermatch Adaptive Moisture Lotion – I got this for a day cream. It is much more lightweight in consistency compared with the Supreme Cream. It is still more rich than my usual go to daytime moisturizers (Tatcha The Water Cream and First Aid Beauty Face Cream). This cream does absorb nicely and I will have no problem using this up. However since it feels like a richer version of the First Aid Beauty moisturizer I like and First Aid Beauty is less expensive I probably won’t order again.
I should probably try the Counter+ matte effect gel moisturizer as I preferred what I got from the Counter+ line. I have become quite picky with moisturizers. I just can’t do heavy thick moisturizers on my face. I prefer water based or gel based moisturizers for this reason. I also don’t feel like my face felt any different using the BC moisturizers than ones I usually use. These moisturizers are scent free in that they don’t have any irritating perfumes but there is definitely a smell. This is great if you are scent sensitive but the smell there is, isn’t exactly pleasant so keep that in mind.
Counter+ All Bright C Serum – I have been using the Drunk Elephant Vitamin C serum for a few years now and am always hesitant to change as it does wonders for my skin. It is just so much clearer when I am using it. The Counter+ Vitamin C serum is a very good alternative. It is bright neon yellow and stinks (so does DE though) but absorbs into my skin well. Other vitamin C alternatives I have tried (I’m looking at you Tatcha) basically did nothing. Both Beautycounter and Drunk Elephant keep my skin clear and bright. The Beautycounter option is priced similarly to DE. Supposedly the Beautycounter version uses more stable vitamin C. So far I have seen zero discolouration or browning.
Counter+ Overnight resurfacing peel – This product is intense. You will feel some stinging especially the first few times you use this product. If you have anything brewing under the surface of your skin this will bring those blemishes out. I think this might be my favourite of all the products I tried because it definitely did something. I didn’t have any peeling exactly though but I followed up with a moisturizer as instructed.
Counter+ Charcoal Face Mask – I was pretty meh on this product. I have tried a few charcoal masks and this one isn’t really any different. The Origins and Fresh ones are less money and just as good. Or you can get the Glam Glow one for a bit more money and it is a superior product.
Overall I think that Beautycounter is over hyped. There is so much hype! That being said if you have dry skin you might end up loving their products. For my Normal to Oily skin I didn’t find any holy grail products that make me want to convert.
Of the products I tried I like the Vitamin C serum and the Resurfacing peel but I am still not convinced they would replace what I usually buy and love. Have you tried Beautycounter? What were your thoughts?
