The Birkenstock Big Buckle Madrid Sandal is a newer version of their oldest style of sandals. The Madrid style is a single buckle style. The big buckle Birkenstocks have just that bigger buckles than the original versions. They make a bigger statement and have a wider strap. My Birkenstock Big Buckle Madrid Sandal Review will share why I am converted to the Madrid style from years of preferring the Gizeh.
Birkenstock Big Buckle Madrid Sandal Review
Birkenstocks last for years. They aren’t a one season sandal. The last two pairs I purchased were the thong Gizeh style. I was convinced they were my style of choice. But this year when I was looking at summer sandals I was immediately drawn to the Madrid Big Buckle Torty.
The Madrid style is the oldest Birkenstock sandal style. In it’s original iteration the single strap is thinner, less substantial than the Big Buckle version. I prefer the Big Buckle version because of the wider strap. It feels more secure and the wider strap suits my foot better.
I do notice the Big Buckle while I am walking. It doesn’t pinch like the Freedom Moses sandals do but you might want to keep the buckles looser or expect to break in the strap where the Big Buckle lies on your foot. I do find that with wear Birkenstocks mold to the foot. Also the straps are leather so they will stretch and give the more you wear the sandals.
Aside from the bigger buckle and the wider single strap there isn’t much difference. The footbed is what you would expect from Birkenstock. The contoured footbed with multiple arch supports is why I keep coming back to the real Birkenstocks. Knockoffs are just not as supportive.
The Big Buckle Birkenstocks are not exclusive to the Madrid style. You can get the Arizona or Gizeh in a Big Buckle version as well. I find the Big Buckle makes a bigger statement though on the Madrid sandal.
The Big Buckle also comes in the Torty which I have as well as a silver or gold metallic big buckle.
I feel like I am more likely to wear the Madrid sandal with skirts and dresses. They are a less clunky style so I feel like they go better. But they are still a more casual sandal. Not exactly something I would wear to an event.
The Birkenstock Madrid sandal with the Big Buckles in Torty have breathed new life into my Birkenstock love affair. They feel less like hippie sandals and more fashion forward without sacrificing the great foot support I expect. What do you think of the Birkenstock Big Buckle Madrid Sandal Review? Is this a style you want to wear?
