The button front denim skirt is having a moment. Especially now that Alexa Chung collaborated with AG to create her version of these retro inspired skirts.
The last time I remember wearing button front jeans was back in highschool and even then I didn’t go for the whole buttons showing trend but I am really liking the look of these button front denim skirts.
The cut and shorter lengths keep them looking modern and not dowdy (don’t go for the below the knee options!).

To be honest the Alexa Chung version (#4 above) is probably my least favourite. It is too short for my liking. If it was an inch or two longer closer to the Asos version I would love it. I love the detail at the front. Instead I lean towards the Stella McCartney or Current/Elliott versions because of the lighter washes and the perfect length. But in reality I would most likely not invest that much in a trend that could look dated quickly. Instead the Asos version is right on point both in style and price.
While I would probably pair these button front jean skirts with a sandal or maybe a wedge espadrille I like the idea of keeping the look youthful with a sneaker instead of a pump or anything too girly or grown up. Keeping this look more of a tomboy version of the skirt instead of super feminine.
