A few years ago I had a great pair of flat pointed to black chelsea boots. I wore those boots to death. Since retiring them I have had this glaring hole in my wardrobe of a flat or very low heeled pair of black boots. When Everlane lauched a new chunky soled Chelsea Boot I jumped at the chance to try the boots out for myself. The Everlane Modern Utility Chelsea Boot Review will share what I like and don’t about these boots. Everlane gifted me these boots but all opinions are my own.
Everlane Modern Utility Chelsea Boot Review
The Everlane Modern Utility Chelsea boot is different than most other Everlane shoes for a few reasons. Most of their other boots are Made in Italy and these are Made in Vietnam. It also features water resistant leather and a rubber lug sole. There is a slight heel at just over 1.5 inches.
Much like other Everlane shoes these chelsea boots fit narrow. I am wearing an 8.5 which is my usual Everlane size which is a half size up from my usual size. **update** since I first tried these boots I also got the Modern Chelsea Boot. I find the Utility style feels tighter across my foot even after breaking them in. The Utility style also needs more break in time.
The boots are sleek but do no have a pronounced pointed toe. I have an older style black boot from Everlane that has a true almond toe and these are not that long and pointed.
The rubber lug sole provides so much traction. The one drawback of a stylish boot with a leather sole is they can be slippy. The rubber sole is more sticky.
The footbed is cushioned. More so than other Everlane boots. And they are super easy on and off. I do wish the pull tab was leather and not nylon. It almost feels like an afterthought.
These boots feel like they could be part of Blondo’s line up. They are known for weather proof boots.
These boots feel like a bit of a departure for Everlane in that most of their leather shoes are made in Italy and there is something about them that feels more luxurious and high end. The Utility boot comes across as more practical. The leather isn’t as soft but that could be part of the weather protecting.
Over all I like these boots but I do think they are missing something that makes other Everlane shoes special. If you are looking for a more almond toe chelsea boot and don’t want the lug sole go with Everlane’s other flat chelsea boot.
If you want to participate in the chunky sole trend without going with an exaggerated sole this is a good choice. I also think these boots would be great for travel. The black boot is practical and goes with everything and also can handle a range of weather.
What do you think of the Everlane Modern Utility Chelsea boot review? Is this a boot you want in your closet?
