Polka dots are all the rage right now and one of the latest releases from Everlane is a group of Cupro polka dot shirts and shirt dresses. They come in a range of colours from white with black dots, navy and white dots as well as black with yellow dots. As part of my on going relationship with Everlane I was gifted a shirt dress to try out and style for you. This is my Everlane Polka Dot Shirt Dress Review.
Everlane Polka Dot Shirt Dress Review
The first thing I noticed about this shirt dress is the fabric. It is so luxurious and soft. The dress is made of Cupro which of course I had never heard of before but it is a material made of cotton. The byproduct from the cotton industry is used to make Cupro so it is a man made natural fiber. The beauty is that it breaths like cotton and has a silky feel. It really is a gorgeous fabric with a nice weight.
The shape of the dress is a basic shirt dress. There is no definition at the waist. It is cut higher at the front and lower at the back with a slight a line shape to the skirt.
Personally I feel like it looks a bit light a nightshirt when not belted. The neckline, which I love by the way, definitely adds to the whole night dress feel when not belted.
The Everlane Polka Dot Shirt dress does come with a tie belt that is the same fabric as the dress. I wanted more definition to my waist so I chose to use a belt I had in my closet instead.
The one drawback of this dress is the minimalist shape. I personally think that it could have used some structure to define the waist. Without being totally fit and flare but having more shape on its own without the use of a belt. More of a feminine, 1940’s style shirt dress. Something more like this in shape. It is essentially the same flaw I found in the stripe shirt dress I reviewed here.
I picked up my usual size 12. It was a nice size with drape and room to move. There was no pulling at the bust but I did find the sleeves a bit long on me. Otherwise I would say this dress is true to size.
Another thing to consider is that this dress hits me above the knee and I am 5’4. If you are taller this might be something to make note of as it will be much shorter dress, more like a tunic.
I did find that after a day of sitting at my desk that the fabric wrinkled a bit but nothing like linen.
All in all I love the fabric of this shirt dress. It really sells the shirt dress for me. I can see myself wearing it with jeans like a tunic or like a kimono when it gets colder.
I prefer the dress belted. That said I could see wearing it loose and free as a beach cover up.
Outfit details: Everlane Polka Dot Shirt dress (gifted), bag Clare V, scarf & belt are old, sandals M. Gemi.
The Everlane Polka Dot Shirt dress is made of lovely fabric and although a bit shapeless it does look great belted. What do you think of the Everlane Polka Dot Shirt dress review? Is this a dress you would buy and wear?
