Everlane Rain Boot Review

Last Updated on December 31, 2020 by Jane

April showers bring May flowers and it also means rain boots are a big part of every day wear. Rainy days and melting snow is the kind of weather that makes me pull out my rain boots. I was lucky to be sent a pair of the new Everlane Rain boots to test out before the launch to share my opinions of the boots with all of you. Even though these boots have been gifted my Everlane Rain Boot review will share my honest thoughts about these boots.

Everlane Rain Boot Review

First off these are really cool looking rain boots. They are a short chelsea boot style so I wouldn’t go jumping in deep puddles with them but for a fashion rain boot they are great looking.

There are a number of different colours from black to the army green I have to a pale pink and a terracotta colour. The colour range feels pretty typical of Everlane in that there are mostly neutral colours.

The boots feel very substantial. The lug sole means that I won’t slip and slide around. The bigger sole also means that you are going to be more protected form the ground and the elements. Cheaper rain boots basically have you walking directly on the ground with a bit of an insole. It means you feel every little bit of what you are walking against.

I wore these boots around the house to test them out. We have loads of snow right now, not exactly rain boot weather. But I can tell you from wearing them that they feel really cushy and substantial. I would compare them more to my Hunter biker style rain boots rather than my cheapie Joe Fresh pairs.

Update 2020: After wearing these boots for a few years now I can say that they work better in cold weather than most rainboots. I wouldn’t wear them in deep snow but wet slushy weather they are perfect. The lug sole means that you have good traction and it also lifts you up so you don’t feel the cold. Add a wooly insert if you want to be even warmer. If you live in a place that doesn’t get much snow these would work to get you through the winter months.

The one negative I have with these boots is that they aren’t really easy to pull on and off. With my bad knee due to my ACL injury this is really amplified. There are tabs on the front and back to pull them on and off which helps, but the side elastics are a bit deceiving. The rubber is just slit to allow for a bit of give. The opening is a bit more narrow that I hoped for and the elastic doesn’t give as much as I needed. I am hoping with more wear this loosens up.

Update for 2020 – at the time I originally wrote this my knee injury made me very sensitive to shoes that didn’t just slip on. Since my knee has healed I have worn these boots so much. No you don’t just quickly slip them on but when they are on my feet they are comfortable and easy to walk in. These are comfortable on my wide feet and I can walk as easily as wearing sneakers.

Size wise I went with an 8 in the rain boot. There are no half sizes but they fit larger and wider than the other style shoes I have from Everlane. In fact I have lots of wiggle room for my toes. The 8 is perfect because it allows for thicker, warmer socks. Sizing for the Everlane Rain Boot – I would recommend getting your natural size and not sizing up unlike other Everlane shoe styles.

So would I recommend the Everlane Rain Boot? Sure they are a fun city rain boot that will look great with your spring outfits. Just know that they aren’t as quick on and off as with slip on styles. Those pull tabs are there for a reason. Still these are my favourite rainboots because of their comfort style and fit. They are the pair I reach for every time it is raining or for transition season dressing.

I live on the rainy westcoast of Canada and I have a pair of Hunter boots. I love them.

I have some similar and was really disappointed in them. With the boot being short my trousers got very dirty from splashes up the back of my legs. However, my feet were very dry.

Yes I think these are good for city but not for when you are going to be dealing with deep puddles and lots of muck. I would want taller boots for that for sure. These are more what I would pop on for the daily commute or for errands.
