Gerard Darel is a French fashion brand based in Paris and established in 1971. It is a brand that has popped up on my radar now and then following different celebrities and fashion types. The Saxo Bag is a bucket style bag with hand, shoulder and crossbody handles. The Gerard Darel Saxo Bag Review will share why I think you should consider this as your next IT bag.
Gerard Darel Saxo Bag Review
The Gerard Darel Saxo Bag comes in a variety of colours and materials. The black bag that I have is 100% calfskin. It is super soft leather. Other colours are sheepskin or suede or even snakeskin.
There are two sizes as well. I have the standard size but there is also a smaller mini version.
What drew me to this bag is the gold interior! It is so amazing! It has a crackle type finish and is throughout the interior.
The size of the bag is enough to carry more than the minimal essentials but too small to lug a laptop. It isn’t the most secure because it closes with a drawstring. There is no zip top. But that would take away from the gold effect anyways.

There are two straps, one of which is interchangeable. The top handle is attached to the bag and shows the gold on the underside. The cross body strap can be switched out to a shoulder strap. Personally I prefer the cross body strap because it allows me to go fully hands free. It is also adjustable to your preferred length.
I think this bag is super gorgeous. But at first I thought I would just have to view from afar because Gerard Darel doesn’t ship to Canada. There are few stockists in North America. Bloomingdales does carry the clothing but not the specific bag I was looking for. I was able to track down this bag for resale on Vestiare. Which is actually a huge score because with duties and taxes resale is a much more affordable option.
It was the first time I have ordered off of Vestiare Collective and I was impressed with the results. Shipping was quick after the verification process. The bag from what I can tell was never used. It was in pristine condition.
There are a number of bucket bags in the mid luxury market. Mansur Gaviel and the Sezane version too. But they are much more ridged and stiff. The soft leather and golden interior of the Saxo is much more fun and special.
