A little over a year ago I talked about the 5 things I learned from fashion bloggers. Since then I have learned one more thing. Great style takes practice.
If I do say so myself my style posts have gotten better since I started posting my outfits here in late 2011. I find myself making better shopping choices. Making effort to steer away from one hit wonders and more towards super re-mixable pieces that I will love for longer than, well, one wear.
But I wouldn’t be this far ahead if I didn’t make an effort to wear outfits most days of the week. If I flaked off and hung out in workout gear or sweats every day because I can as a stay at home mom I would have a harder time putting together looks I like when needed.
But it is more than just creating good style habits it is learning what works for my body. I was inspired to write this post by a new project started by UK blogger Not Dressed as Lamb. She has started the Accentuate the Positive project which is super refreshing in the world of fashion and blogging where it is super easy to get caught up in everything you hate about your body and why something looks great on her but not on you.

So I decided to take part. You see I haven’t been in love with my body for some time. Even before I had 2 kids I felt the slow of my metabolism but this past winter it really hit me. Recently I have been working out and making a big effort to be less of a couch potato. Still I am not where I want to be fitness and shape wise. So instead of getting myself down because I have alot of work to do still, I am going to accentuate the postitive.
So the first picture is about my hair. I have always loved my hair, especially since I embraced layers in about 1997. My grandmother used to gush about the colour. She was a redhead (now white) and deeply envious of my deep brown locks. Even though I colour it now due to my own growing number of greys, I stick as close to natural as I can because it just feels like me. And when I have a good hair day I could be wearing a paper bag and still feel awesome. I love my hair.

I think I have nice lips. You won’t catch me making duck face on instagram or anything but I like that I have lips that are not so full that they look like I had work done but not thin either so that they disappear when I smile. In fact I think that their rosy natural colour is fab and probably one of the reasons I keep believing I can still get by with no makeup this far into my thirties.

There was a time I was not a fan of my nose. Back in high school I had a couple of school pictures where it just didn’t seem to go with my face. But I don’t know I love it now, it is strong and straight. I am not sure anyone will be asking for it at the plastic surgery office but I like it.
So there it is – accentuating the positive. I hope that if I revisit this topic next year I will say my shoulders or my tush, but for now, I am sticking to above the shoulders 😉
Hope to see you over on the Accentuate the Positive Facebook page.

I think you look great and I think that very often the stuff we don't like about ourselves no one else notices..... I agree though that style takes practice and I'm going to have a lot of fun practicing! xo styleontheside.com

Thank you Caroline, you are right though, we notice things about ourselves that most people don't see.
And I too am going to have alot of fun practicing :)
