So there is just over 3 weeks until Halloween and I am back with another Halloween costume from your closet. This time the costume is more pretty; a fairy costume.
To be honest I didn’t expect I would be debuting this Marc Jacobs hot pink silk dress I found at Coco’s Closet for Halloween, but c’est la vie. I thought for a great fairy costume you need to start with a base of a pink, white or green dress.
Two components of this costume are from my daughter’s dress up bin, but you can find fairy wings at the dollar store for a couple of bucks at this time of year if you don’t have some lying around.
The tutu was a quick DIY that my Elements of Fakery collaborators whipped up for a kids birthday party. It is just a ribbon with different colours of tulle tied on until you get a full skirt. I thought it added a bit of whimsy and the sort of petal effect that many of the fairy dresses have in pictures.
I wanted to add a bit more of that nature element and finish the look with a floral crown. This one I put together with some dollar store flowers and a bit of floral wire didn’t last too long after this photo shoot.
To create the floral crown I clipped off each individual flower from the bunch and attached them together with the floral wire. I kept building it out until I ended up with a wreath for my head full of flowers.
If I were to do it again I would either use a hairband and wire the flowers onto that or use a heavier floral wire, one that might be used to create the base wreath as the base and attach the flowers onto that one by one.
Since I was the one who got my makeup done for the 80’s rocker costume, Alexis from Elements of Fakery was the subject of the fairy make up. Her sister Camille did an amazing job of getting a really dewy, light look for the fairy makeup. Check out how they put together the look above over on Elements of Fakery and pair it with the costume for a complete Fairy costume from your closet!
You might be wondering what I did for shoes. Since it was fairly hot the day we took the pictures I went barefoot which I thought was very fairy but you could use any silver or gold sandals, even nude or a bright colour would work.

thank you! I know right - I have never been one to rock a floral crown for no reason but with this costume it totally works :)
