I saw these jeans on someone I follow on instagram and I felt that they might be a barrel leg jean I could pull off. Like many new trends it takes a while before I find the version of it that resonates. It also takes a while to see it over and over to determine if I like it or if it just isn’t me.
I do think there seems to be a lot of overlap with carrot jeans, barrel leg jeans and horseshoe jeans. Carrot seems to have less of a curve but still wider at the top and a taper to the ankle but still loose not super skinny. Much like a carrot. Horseshoe jeans are very curved and are so exaggerated of a style I am just not going to go there.
What I like about these barrel leg jeans is that they feel just like a wide leg jean but I think with the seaming they look less dumpy than a cropped wide leg can look on someone with the short curvy stature that I have.
What I don’t love about them is that they are mid rise. I prefer a high rise. Or rather a higher rise that these jeans. I think part of the reason that I have some weird creasing that I hadn’t noticed before in real life is that I tried to hike these higher on the waist than they are supposed to be.
At first I was also stressing about what coat to wear with barrel leg jeans. Do I stick with shorter or cropped styles. Are these pants why cropped trench coats are a thing?
Then I realized I need to stop stressing. They are just jeans. Treat them like a wide leg jean. I wear all my coats with other cropped wide leg jeans. So why would these be any different? I am so used to pairing big coats with slimmer styles that there seems to be a mental block with wider leg jeans. I will have to do a post on this!
