Red is often thought of as an accent colour. Adding a pop of red to an outfit can add a fun bright element to an otherwise basic outfit. Add a red scarf or a red bag. But how does it change things when Red is the main element of the outfit? Like when you are wearing a red coat? Sharing here how to wear a red coat through the entire winter season.
I am using two red coats to illustrate this post. One is more of an orangey red (here). The other is more of a blue red (similar). Another thing to keep in mind is that all the colours that you would add red to as an accent colour can in turn become an accent colour for red.
How to wear a Red Coat
Style Red with Black
The most obvious choice to pair with red is black. Black is easy and goes with everything. Red looks great over an all black outfit or even just paired with a black hat and scarf. Black is a no fail option.
Style Red with White
White is another easy and obvious option. White gives red a bit of a frosty feel to the red coat. It really pops against the red!
Style Red with plaid
Red with plaid is both festive and just really works. It isn’t a combo that I want to use all year but it is another no fail option. I think especially because many plaids have at least some red in them so it pulls together the coat and scarf well.
Style Red with Grey
Red and grey is another option that works well. I find the grey a softer more cozy option to black or white. I don’t know why but I think it looks a bit more casual overall.
Style Red with Camel
Red with camel is another great option. Less frosty than the all white option but less casual than the grey option. Camel is a warmer option.

Its not just camel but browns in general look great with red. I was surprised when I tried the brown plaid with the red coat and it looked great too!
Style Red with Leopard
I mean if camel works with red and black works, leopard is the next obvious step. These two leopard scarves are different tones but they both work well.
Style Red with more Red
This scarf could also be grouped in with the plaid but I wanted to separate it out to show that you can choose something more monochromatic. Of course there are a few other colours in the plaid pattern but over all it reads as red.
