I need some Spring-peration; dressing appropriately for Spring

Lets face it, Spring in Canada isn’t exactly warm. It is warm-er, but still not anywhere close to shorts and sandals weather no matter how much we try to convince ourselves.

And since we are Canadian we like to complain about the weather even though it has warmed up considerably since February. But lets face it, if you grew up here you really aren’t surprised that the temperature is just shy of 10 degrees with a mixture of rain and snow. I mean if it can snow on the May 24th long weekend, it can snow in April surely.

I know we all want to shed our parkas and skip straight to sundresses and bare skin, but short of a Caribbean vacation we still have to wait a few months. I like to think of it as an excuse to have 4 distinct wardrobes; one that can handle everything that a Canadian Spring has to offer.

I dreamt up a few outfits that I like to think highlight some items we should be wearing for Spring.

Spring is definitely time to put away our parkas and winter boots. If you layer properly, or buy it lined, a trench coat is all you need for spring. In terms of your outerwear anyways.
When the weather is a bit iffy still and you prefer the look of leather boots to galoshes, this is a great time to get more wear out of your tall boots. Lets face it you probably put them away around the same time the snow plows and salt started hitting the road and until it is too hot to pull them over your jeans tall boots are great for spring.
I for one never stop wearing colour though the winter but many of us trend towards a somber pallet of blacks through the darkest months. Add some floral to your layers and you will at least look like the season is further along than it is.
I have always wanted a clear umbrella, but instead carry something that fits easily into my purse during these months. Remember the old nursery rhyme? April showers bring May flowers…

On a day you don’t have to worry as much about the elements a jacket maybe all you need to layer up. Jackets are great because your outfit underneath can be exceedingly simple. The jacket really does all the work for you. I played up the floral trim in the jacket with the accessories.

Another thing that is great for Spring is to transition your heavy leather winter bag to something with canvas. It just has a lighter feel even if it is still an oversized tote.

This last outfit is by far my favourite. I am addicted to Tucker blouses; even if I can only afford a knockoff. I also love the cognac colour of the leather jacket.

I always feel that Spring is a great season for leather jackets as they add more warmth than just a cotton jacket and they have an edgy feel.

I also like the look of a spring scarf. They are lighter and airier. I love how this one has almost the opposite print to the top.

Another perk to Spring is getting to wear flats outside the office, since we are no longer trudging through snow. Even if we still have to wear a thin sock.

I hope that you can see that Spring isn’t something to be complaining about even if it isn’t humid and pushing 30 degrees. Instead we get to wear luxurious layers, switch out our parkas for jackets that are way cuter and so much more flattering. And winter boots give way to cute flats and boots.

I mean really who wants to be sweating on their walk to work in outfits that keep us warm in an air-conditioned office but are too hot for the street?
