The JCREW Chateau Parka is one style that sells out every year. It has an a-line shape and a style that is reminiscent of vintage Inuit wool parkas. This coat is a chic way to get through the winter months. It is released in different range of colours every year since 2006 and is made of Stadium cloth wool from Italy. The JCREW Chateau Parka review will share what is so great about this wool coat and compare it to the Factory Vail Parka.
JCREW Chateau Parka Review
JCREW Chateau Parka is their stadium cloth wool parka with faux fur trim and gold hardware. It’s popularity has spawned the Chateau puffer and the Factory Vail version.
The cut is a-line. The fit is roomy through the lower body but more slim in the upper body. The coat is snug through the shoulders and arms. I don’t really notice when I am wearing a long sleeve tee but with a sweater you can tell that the shoulders and arms are snug.
Many bloggers will tell you to size down in this coat. I disagree. Especially if you are curvy. If you size down you will lose the a-line shape and you will have zero room to layer.
I got rid of my Factory version of this coat last year or so. It had gotten pilled with wear and just looked tired. But I still really liked the style of coat so I picked up the real deal.
There are two major differences between the JCREW Chateau Parka and the JCREW Factory Vail Parka. First is the wool mix. The Chateau Parka has a much higher wool content. The coat feels thicker and more substantial. The second is the details. The Chateau parka has the stitching detail on the arms, while the Vail Parka does not. The JCREW Chateau parka has a fuller faux fur which is also removeable. The Chateau parka has zipped upper pockets which the Factory version doesn’t have pockets at all anymore. Back when I got my Vail parka the upper pockets were there but they did not have zippers. I think the older version of the Vail parka was a closer dupe than the newer version.
Full disclosure I bought my Chateau Parka off ebay. This orangey red colour is not the current red colour of stadium cloth. This years (2020) red is more of a bluey red. Traditionally the Chateau Parka doesn’t go on sale until the end of season after all the good colours are sold out. So I took a gamble that paid off. There are loads of new with tags options on Poshmark and Ebay. Especially in small sizes but you can get larger sizes if you are flexible on colour or wait it out. Full price this coat is over $500 Canadian but I was able to pick it up for under $300. However, it looks like the Chateau Parka is included in sales earlier this year!
What I love about this coat in addition to the style is that it is super warm. I find puffers and coats made of synthetic fabrics take a while to warm up. Whereas this wool coat is warm right away. I instantly feel warmer putting this coat on.
