I have always been drawn to the JCREW Chateau Parka but the price always turned me off. That and it almost never went on sale. Or by the time it did the red colour I wanted was sold out. I did have a camel version from Factory but that red parka always eluded me. This year JCREW launched their Chateau puffer. It is priced more attainably and has been included in the sales. Plus it came in THAT red. Sharing my JCREW Chateau Puffer Review.
JCREW Chateau Puffer Review
It is clear that JCREW kept many of the things that make the chateau parka special when it made the puffer version. The general shape is the same although you can make it a big more fit and flare with the cinching at the waist. The pockets are the same. Personally I love being able to snap my phone into the pockets but slip my hands into the same pocket from the side.
There are also some notable differences. The fabric being the most obvious one but since this is a puffer coat that is expected. The puffer version is also shorter. The wool coat hit me mid thigh, whereas the puffer is coming to just past the bum. The fur at the hood is also noticeably absent.
I absolutely love the colour of this puffer. I am a sucker for red. I love the pink contrasting lining. So much fun. Although if JCREW wanted to make this coat a bit more luxurious they could have made it pink faux fur. The hood is lined with fleece but not the soft stuff.
The Chateau puffer comes in an array of colours. I also really like the olive which would be great if you are into neutrals.
I wish there was fleece lining in the pockets. This would have made them warmer for the dead of winter. I also feel like they are placed slightly too low for me, but if you are taller I don’t think this would be an issue for you. The slant zip pocket is placed higher than on the wool parka version. More at boob level than around the mid section. I guess they made these pocket changes to accommodate the waist cinch.
In fact over all I find this puffer to be fairly light weight. It doesn’t have much heft to it. It isn’t the kind of puffer you could wear a t-shirt underneath in February and still be warm.
That being said it is roomy. I took my usual 12 and I can easily layer knits underneath this coat. Maybe not my chunkiest but definitely mid weight sweaters.
It should be a nice option to do winter sports in as it feels very easy to move in. There are also zips at the size that would increase movement as well.
The sleeves are also nice and long. So if you are tall and have long arms you shouldn’t have to worry about the sleeves being too short.
The hood is not as deep as the wool version, but I personally felt like I was drowning in the parka hood. The hood on the Chateau puffer is also detachable.
Overall I like this coat. I like the feminine shape. I love the colour and the attention to detail. The style is almost more of a mash up between the perfect rain coat (reviewed here) and the Chateau parka (reviewed here).
PS Factory now has their own version of this parka. Looks more straight fit and a bit longer. Get it HERE.
What do you think of the JCREW Chateau Puffer?

How warm is this? I live where it is often 10-30 degrees in winter and at times below zero with the windchill. Looking at buying this from last season but worried it won't be warm enough.

Hi I am in Canada and I wore this to pick up my kids most of the winter. I would say it is good to minus 10 Celsius. Anything colder (like a dreaded polar vortex) and I pulled out this parka instead.

Red is my favourite colour at this time of year. Even before you put an item on it leaves you with a warm feeling. This is a great puffer to see you through the bad weather. Regards - Jill stylishatsixty www.stylishatsixty.wordpress.com

Red is my fave at this time of year too! I have been wearing this coat for the school run every day lately. Nice and toasty.
