When the stay at home orders started we were starting our busy season. We switched up our routine so that one of us was home with the kids at all times but we just plugged through the work to get everything done. Now that busy season is slowing I am realizing more and more how unsustainable homes schooling and working from home really is. It is impossible to do everything well. But the great thing about work slowing down to a more reasonable pace we have had time to enjoy the weather outside, read some books and wear some breezy kaftans.
While I am hanging out at home lately I have been choosing breezy kaftans instead of loungewear. I love me some sweatpants but it is just getting too hot to wear them and be comfortable. House dresses seem to be all the rage lately. More put together than sweatpants but still cool and comfortable. I have picked up a bunch from H&M. I watch for natural materials like cotton and linen. I have been loving H&M dresses lately. Like this this or this.
I have actually read a few books lately. And not just ones with my tween. I read the first two books in the Book of Dust series. It is both a prequel and continuation of the His Dark Materials series which I have read a few times. We also watched the HBO adaptation of the His Dark Materials series on HBO which was fantastic.
I also read the latest in the Shadowhunters series. Chain of Gold is set at the turn of the century with the kids of the characters from the Clockwork series. Cassandra Clare never dissapoints I am hooked on this new series! I would suggest reading the short stories she released, the Ghosts of the Shadow Market. It will introduce some of the characters in this book. I am thinking I need to read the stories about Magnus Bane next.
This is our second summer with our patio. We just had a deck when we moved into our house and to make more use of the backyard we put in a stone patio. I love it but we needed some lounge furniture. We have ordered a Hammock and a lounge set from IKEA to make more use of the space. One of the perks of working from home more is moving out to the back deck and setting the laptop on the table and working outside!
How have you been handling the stay at home orders? Have you been baking as much banana bread as us (too much really) or reading or getting projects done?
