This weekend is the last chance to shop the Nordstrom Anniversary sale before the prices go up on August 6th. What I found last year was that we will start to see other retailers bringing in their fall merchandise soon now as the Nordstrom sale seems to predate all the other fall drops. My sale purchases have finally arrived and I thought I would share them with you so you can see what I bought before the sale is over.
The Bonham Boot – I really love this style of boot. It is comfortable and it looks chic on. They are an easy pull on style. The leather is lovely and I haven’t had any pinching issues. The colour is a great shade of brown that doesn’t seem to clash with black at all. I am not sure why I said that except I know many don’t like to wear black and brown together. But hey it goes alright? And if this is an issue you struggle with these boots make it easier. I wore them in this post but I will also show them on below. My guess is these will pop up on the Madewell site after the sale is over but snagging them marked down will be tricker as Madewell doesn’t have sales every week.
Recommendation – BUY!
Bernardo Microtouch Pillow Down & Feather Fill Jacket – I have seen countless bloggers rave about Bernardo jackets and I wanted to try one out for myself. I also wanted something for ski season that had a nice shape as so many outdoorsy coats are shapeless. I am not sure why warmth has to come in the shape of a square? Anyways this jacket definitely delivers on the shape front. I love the ruching at the sides and the quilting at the back. I ordered a large, which I would say is my size, however I would not recommend this coat if you are tall and need longer sleeves. I am a curvy 5’4 and the sleeves on me are just to my wrists. There is a snug elastic that will keep out the elements but there is not a knit cuff. I do notice the elastic at the back. It isn’t uncomfortable so much as I guess I am just not used to it. However if you look at the back detail it is pretty gorgeous for a puffer coat.
Recommendation – If you are petite and are looking for a lightweight puffer with a feminine shape BUY. However if you are taller or looking for a denser down coat PASS.
Also note contrary to what I have read from other bloggers the neck detail is nice but it isn’t going to replace a scarf if you live anywhere with actual winter. For skiing I will still wear one of these.
Halogen Open Front Drape Cardigan – Unlike the puffer coat this cardigan is generous. I ordered the L/XL size. It hits me at my knees and I did have to roll up the sleeves. The arms are not tight which is exactly why I ordered this size. Based on the reviews I was tempted to order the small/medium but I don’t like ordering anything small at this point in my life. If there had of been a medium/large I would have totally gone for that as this does feel generous in size. That said I LOVE IT! It is so soft. It is a cashmere wool blend and it is so gorgeous. This will be perfect for fall, lounging at home and travelling. I would say buy in multiples but this is not an inexpensive sweater. Please ignore the negative reviews and go with your normal size. It is not meant to be a slim fitting cardigan.
Recommendation – BUY if you like clothes with drape. I would style this as I have above with slim fitting clothes underneath.
So if I had to rank my purchases I would say my favourite is the Halogen Open Front Drape cardigan followed closely by the Madewell boots. The Bernardo jacket has nice shape but otherwise it is just a lightweight puffer.
Have you shopped the Nordstrom Anniversary sale? Do you think it lives up to the hype?
