March Best {& Worst} of Beauty

March Beauty FavouritesDuring the month of March I was fortunate to try out a bunch of new products. Some are just new to me and others are new to market.

Dislike; Maybelline Rocket Volume Mascara

I will start with the one I really didn’t like. While I was at Fashion Week I got a few samples of Maybelline Mascara and Lipsticks. The Colour Sensational Vivids lipsticks were great. I have been wearing the Vivid Rose colour and it is a fantastic hot pink shade that has a red undertone.

The Rocket Volume Mascara however I did not like. I think it was the brush and the way it applied the mascara. It just seemed to plop on the mascara instead of placing it on each strand. I will stick to the Illegal Length Mascara (also by Maybelline) that I picked up last year.

Love it; Yves Rocher Anti Age Global

For the month of March I have been testing out the Yves Rocher Anti Age Global skin care line. Yves Rocher is one of the first modern cosmetics companies to put botanicals first in their formulations and does not test on animals. I have been using the Day creme, eye cream and night cream.

Unlike some of the moisturizers I have tried out, especially day creams, the consistency of this is quite thick. It resembles more of a night cream in texture than say the Live Clean (which is more a lotion), or Arbonne (somewhere in between). I really liked this. Especially for winter where we can get really dried out, or if we are using a lighter formula moisturizer find ourselves piling it on without much better results.

Does it work? Yes. I especially noticed the results of the eye creme right away. Dark circles and puffiness were greatly reduced. I really need to stick with using an eye cream.

Like I said the Day cream was great. I loved the way it felt and even though it was thicker it absorbed well and I was left with skin that felt closer to my kids texture that my 30 something self. I noticed that when I had a cold, I really didn’t have that super dry ouchy skin for a week after the blowing stopped and it is all because of this cream.

The Night creme, I wasn’t as diligent with putting on, but when I used it I know my skin looked even better. It was just so soft, plump and smooth. The Night Cream is fairly consistent in texture to the Day cream but just a bit more luxurious.

There is a slight smell, but much like other organic products I have used the smell goes away as the product is absorbed into the skin. The smell is a bit flowery but very fresh.

Like it: Batiste Dry Shampoo

I don’t wash  my hair every day. And some days it gets really greasy. I am so behind the times when it comes to dry shampoo, and when the guys at Nail Polish Canada asked me to try some out I said yes right away.

I picked out the Batiste Dry Shampoo for Dark Hair. I had read somewhere that the dry shampoo can look white in dark hair so I thought this would be the best way to go.

I tried the dry shampoo on 2nd day hair and 3rd day hair. I think it works GREAT on 2nd day hair. Any oil is banished and my hair was left looking light and fluffy again.

3rd day hair was a bit trickier. I would get some spots that would feel better and then I would get that crawly I need to wash my hair feeling again. Honestly I think I need a bit more application practice and use it day 2 and day 3 instead of letting the oil get out of control.

The only drawback for me, as I tend to be sensitive to smells is the perfume with the dry shampoo is a bit much for me. From what I can tell there is no unscented version.

I did notice that even though I had the dark hair version when I sprayed the dry shampoo my hair was a bit grey coated at first, but as you work it in and wait a minute or two it totally goes away.

Want to win a Batiste Dry shampoo to try for yourself? As part of their foray into more than just nail polish, Nail Polish Canada is giving some away HERE.

All in all March was a big month for beauty trys & mostly good stuff.

Good to know about the Batiste dry shampoo - the brand I buy is expensive (Ojon), and while I love it, I'm always looking for alternatives!

Yes Batiste works great, but I will say I haven't tried a bunch of alternatives. But it is quite inexpensive!
