Halloween is coming up fast and it might be too late to rent a great costume but you can create something great from your closet instead!
Costumes from your Closet: Holly Golightly
Holly Golightly, Audrey Hepburn’s iconic character from Breakfast at Tiffany’s is easier to achieve that you might think. In fact the updo is probably the hardest thing going on in this costume from your closet. The rest of it is simply a black dress, trench coat, a statement necklace, black gloves and heels. The statement necklace can also be achieved by adding a broach to a few pearl necklaces.
In my first year university I wore a stripe tube dress, red sneakers and a black cape to create my wicked witch costume. The green face paint really makes it but if I were to do it again from my closet right now and to be ready for trick or treating I would wear a black dress throw on a black trench and some stripey stockings. I would trade the witch hat for a black fedora and keep the red sneakers.
Ever since we watched Lords of Dogtown on repeat when it was on HBO I have always thought that a 70’s skateboarder would make a great costume. Now more than ever this is so easy to create right from your closet. Wide leg flares, some retro inspired sneakers, and a ringer tee. Wing out your hair and carry a skate board and you are set to be one of the first generation of boarders.
