A while back I was sent some Mott and Bow products to try for a review. I wanted to wear, wash and use the tees before I shared my honest opinion with you. I have two white tees with slightly different fits and fabrics to share. This is my Mott and Bow T Shirt Review. Product was sent to me for review. All opinions are my own.
Mott and Bow T Shirt Review
The first tee that I have from Mott and Bow is the Classic Crew Slub Tee. I have quite a few slub tees in my closet, mostly from Banana Republic. This one has a slightly shorter and more boxy fit when compared to the second Mott and Bow tee I have to review.
I like the neckline (not too high, not too open) and I like the length. In fact of the two tees this one fits me better. The slub knit isn’t too see through but I did wear a dark green bra in all these photos to show that these tees are still sheer. You can see the dark cast of the bra through the t-shirt.
The fabric is a nice weight.
The only negative thing I have to say is that the tee fits small. I am in the extra large and it fits about a size or size and a half smaller than the other brands that I shop. If you are at the top of Mott and Bow’s size range I would say buyer beware. The sizing is more juniors or skews small like Zara.
The second tee that I was sent is the Fitted Crew Marcy Tee. Before I get into the obvious fact that this t-shirt fits even smaller than the first let me share what I like about this tee.
I love the fabric. It is a Pima cotton modal blend and it is so soft and silky. If the fit wasn’t so small I would buy this tee in multiples.
The neckline is a bit higher on this tee compared to the 100% cotton slub crew, but with the stretch it doesn’t feel restrictive.
The downside of this tee is the fit and sheerness.
This tee is supposedly designed to eliminate sheerness and as you can see my dark bra is visible. More so in real life. Now I definitely have white t-shirts that are worse but I can’t say that this tee isn’t sheer.
Perhaps the sheerness on me is down to the fact that this top fits small. Usually I would size up in a fitted tee. But extra large is my sized up size. I thought I had sized up. It is also the top end of Mott and Bow’s size range. But the sizing of everything I was sent from Mott and Bow was small. As with the cotton slub crew the fitted tee fit a size to size and a half smaller when compared to other brands.
Note that I was also sent jeans to try from Mott and Bow, but I won’t be able to share those here. I was sent a size 32 in a number of their jeans and unfortunately they too fit small. It isn’t that they were just a bit tight. They fit so small I can’t actually get them on my body. Usually a 32 jean is a US 12/14 but these fit more like a US 8/10. I know this because I compared them in size to my 14 year old daughters jeans.
It is disappointing too because the fabrics felt great. I think much like the tees they are good quality jeans but the sizing skews so small that if you are close to the top end of the size range I would caution against ordering. I would definitely recommend sizing up if you are curvy. Treat Mott and Bow sizes as if you were shopping a juniors brand or Zara.
My final takeaway from this Mott and Bow T Shirt review is that the tees are lovely. I really like the fabric of the Marcy Tee. The Pima cotton modal blend makes for a soft and silky feeling t-shirt. I also washed (in cold) and tumble dried both tees and noticed no shrinking. But I will be wearing these as undershirts as the fit skews at least one size too small and more fitted than I like for t-shirts.
