At the base of so many of my favourite outfits is a great t-shirt.
I have tried many different styles at different price points from Gap to American Apparel, to StyleMint to JCREW. I have stopped short of paying 90 plus as it seems a bit much for a basic but hey if you could pick it up on sale and it is perfect I say HEY go for it!!
But I am here to say you don’t need to pay big bucks for the perfect t-shirt. I have a round-up of my favourite tees down below.
These are my latest favourites (want this one). They are so soft, the perfect rounded neckline that isn’t too tight or too revelaing. There is great length which allows this tee to drape well with out being blended (ie: it is pure cotton). This is the most expensive style for Canadians at $46.50.
2. Gap & Old Navy Vintage Style tees
I originally bought this style from GAP but I can only seem to find this tee on the Old Navy site now but they are essentially the same t-shirt. Super soft again, slightly see through but if you get the shirt in colour it isn’t an issue. This t-shirt is a blend of polyester and rayon and cotton. Of all the styles I find this the most clingy but it is super soft. I also prefer the v-neck version to the crew.
Of all the styles on the list this one has the most drape but it is also the style that wrinkles the most. Still soft and thin like the others but the pima cotton has a different feel. Because the other styles are meant to feel like a well worn vintage favourite the best way to describe the difference is that it just fees new.
Somewhere between the BR City tee and the vintage tee is this t-shirt from Club Monaco. Made of modal (a semi synthetic) again it is soft with great drape. The neckline of this t-shirt is the lowest of the bunch and you do have to watch when washing this shirt since it is not cotton you want to avoid the dryer. Even if it is a bit more high maintenance to wash it has that great slouchy drape going for it.
What all these t-shirts have going for them is that they are affordable AND a great t-shirt. The most expensive option is the JCREW one but it is regularly on sale so you can pick it up for $20 if you are watching. In fact all of these brands regularly have sales so please oh please don’t pay full price.
On the flip side you can for sure find cheaper t-shirts but I know from getting dressed every day these are the ones that I choose even when all my laundry is clean and they are the ones that prompt me to do laundry when they are dirty.
Who makes your favourite t-shirt?

The Old Navy vintage v-neck tee is my absolute fave. The length and fit are perfect for me and there are so many colours and they are so inexpensive, but last well. I also love Everlane tees (and tanks and sweatshirts) xo Emma http://strollingthecityinheels.com
