If you follow me on instagram you would have seen a while back I went on a bit of a Nars lipstick binge. It was extra point time at Murale & Shoppers Drug Mart and it just seemed like a good idea at the time.
You see I wasn’t much of a lipstick person before. Lip gloss yes but lipstick just never seemed to do what I wanted it to; stay put with vibrant colours. Granted I didn’t give it much of a chance.
Then came Nars. When I tried my first matte Nars lipstick I was hooked. They stay put for ages and even fade in a uniform way that doesn’t beg to be reapplied immediately. So of course I picked up more shades.
One of the thing with beauty blogs is that alot of the time the beauty blogger sharing tips doesn’t necessarily share the same skin colour or hair colour as me and so I don’t get a true idea of what the colour will look like on me. I thought maybe there are others out there who feel the same. So this is what the 5 shades of Nars lipsticks reviewed here look like on a dark haired, olive skinned, Caucasian women in her 30’s. Ha! Sounds like a singles ad.
The top corner is me with my make-up on but no lip stick. As you can see Nars Dolce Vita is a my lips only better shade. It is fairly sheer which you can see from the swatch photo. It is not a matte lipstick. It is one of those shades that is great for day when you really just want to finish off your look without a bold statement lip. It doesn’t stain the lips the same way as the matte lipsticks do but this is perfect if you are looking to change to a bolder lip for a night out after work.
The next colour is Nars Schiap. This is one of the Matte lipsticks and is a bold hot pink. If you are looking for a dupe Joe Fresh Watermelon is pretty close. I actually like this colour with soft makeup for day. It seems to brighten up my whole face. Which is always a plus.
Next is Nars Funny Face, another matte lipstick. This is one of those gorgeous universal shades. A great berry shade that works for day or night. It isn’t too punchy for work. If I were to recommend one Nars shade for you to try it would be Funny Face.
The last two shades are actually the Nars Lip Pencils. The bottom left is a Satin lip pencil and the bottom right a matte lip pencil.
Luxembourg is a great red shade for people not into reds. It errs on the side of a orangey red without being too orange. As a Nars Satin Lip pencil it glides on very easily. The pencils make it easier to line the lip which is nice. The colour is pigmented enough that even though it is not a matte lipstick it wears off nicely, still staining the lip with colour.
The final colour is Nars Train Bleu. This colour is purple. Not a dark red berry or wine, but a dark purple. Think Blackberry or grape jam. Whenever I first put it on I am not that into it as it is so dark, but after a minute to get over the shock it is actually a great vampy colour. If you are looking for a dark lipstick without going so far as to a black Train Bleu is one to try. It is a Velvet Matte pencil to you draw it on but the matte doesn’t glide as nicely as the Satin lip pencils by Nars.
Below is an up close look of all the shades.
I actually forgot to include Nars Heat Wave in this review. I will save it for another day. It is a matte orangey red. More so than Luxembourg above.
What is your favourite shade of Nars Lipstick?
