I am a bit obsessed with woven textures lately. Woven mules and bags are basically how I want to rock this trend. Handmade in Mexico, this low heeled leather mule feels current and retro at the same time. My Nisolo Ama mule review shares why I think you should add these mules to your closet now.
Nisolo Ama Mule Review
The Nisolo Ama mule is handmade with woven leather. Because it is handmade each shoe is unique. The shoe features an almond toe and slight heel. Unlike some other woven mules the inside of the woven leather upper is lined with leather. This allows the shoe to stretch but not as much as if it was just the woven leather on it’s own.
The fit on these mules is fairly true to size, however since I have a wide foot I went with the 39 or US 8.5. I am happy with the fit as they are very comfortable and there was zero break in time. If you have a narrow foot I would not size up.
I love the almond toe. It looks pointed without being pointy. I find this is the most flattering style of shoe shape.
The 1 inch heel is great just for a bit of lift. If you are the type of person that can’t wear true flats but doesn’t like heels this is perfect.
There is padding in the foot bed in the heel and balls of the foot areas. Not super cushy but a good amount of padding so that you feel comfortable.
I just find these shoes really sturdy and well made. They have stretched and gotten softer with wear.
One thing I haven’t emphasized enough is these are sustainably made shoes. The leather is vegetable tanned. The factory workers earn a living wage and Nisolo is a certified B corporation. I could go on and on but essentially buying a pair of Nisolo shoes goes towards helping what is wrong in the fashion industry by supporting a company that is trying to do right by their employees and the environment.
Nisolo does not ship internationally. If you are based in the USA that isn’t a big deal since the company is based in Nashville and ships across the country. However, if you are based in Canada or internationally you can shop via Garmentory which does ship outside the US.
My experience with Garmentory was excellent. Shipping was fast and free for orders over $100. Duties and taxes were extra however the carrier allows you to pay that before they deliver so it was fairly seamless. I like that DHL and UPS do that now so that you don’t have to worry about having your package held or having to fuss about that when it arrives.
I totally recommend these woven mules. There are other brands that I liked the look of but they were super flat (no 1 inch heel) or super narrow fitting. If those things put you off like me I would recommend the Ama mule from Nisolo so that you can get that woven mule look without the fit issues.

Mules are the best for mid season. I got a pair of black Gucci alternative mocassin mules a couple of years ago and they're really comfy and look very chic with pretty much anything. I like the fact that the ones you chose are woven because I cannot wear mine very often because my feet get really sweaty even if they are not most of the time, but as they are very classic, I know I am going to wear them for a long time. Great choice, I love them!
