It seems that shorts season is a LONG way off here in Toronto. If it is warm where you are please, don’t even talk to me right now. The last few days have been gorgeously sunny, but frigid. Still I have been thinking about spring. Not just spring really but warm weather that means shorts.

I am really liking this higher waisted style that has become popular lately. But unlike the cut off shorts version that looks more like denim underwear, the styles shown above are more tailored and tasteful with more coverage.
My trick for getting the length I like if the shorts are a bit too fitted and hitting a bit too short; size up. This gives the shorts a bit more drape and yes they hang a bit lower on the waist but then they don’t cut across he widest part of the leg in an unflattering way.
Shorts are generally a more casual item so pristine fit isn’t as important as say for your work trousers. Still you can always have them nipped at the waist at your tailors.
I still want to upgrade my boyfriend shorts (maybe I will cut off a pair of older boyfriend jeans?), but a tailored short like those above are a must for my wardrobe too. Shop more styles below.
What style of shorts are you shopping for this year? Are you holding off or shopping them now?
