Plaid Glam

It is probably getting obvious by now that I am really into plaid at this time of the year. I laugh when I see every fall that plaid is a trend. It really isn’t a trend item but a classic print that can be worn in everything from jackets to skirts and shirts.

I chose to just go with the classic feel of this JCREW plaid pencil skirt and pair it with my long line pea coat and vintage fur collar.

And because I can’t bear bare legs at this time of year I went with my spanx tights and a black heel.

My initial reaction was to pair this skirt with my scallop trim silk blouse but when I saw the blue in the plaid I thought it would be a close match to this crop blouse I had in my closet so I went with that instead. The high waist on this skirt makes for a perfect match with a crop blouse. Even if you think WOW how on earth could I pull off a crop top remember this is not the low waisted jean era any longer and wearing a crop top with higher waists means you simply don’t have to tuck in any shirt tails.

I would suggest wearing Spanx with this skirt as it doesn’t have alot of structure. I felt really lumpy until I pulled on my shaper and then the skirt looked fantastic.

Outfit deitals: Pea coat (old Zara similar here and here), fur collar vintage, lace top Aritzia (love this one), tights Spanx, heels Nine West, pencil skirt JCREW

I would totally wear this with a red sweater to play up the Christmas factor or pair it with a black top to let the plaid pop.

Hi, I am following you and like your choices. Another thing you can try is pairing the crop top with a light blouse, quite long, that floats away from the hips, very feminine and doesn't require being tucked in either and extends the use of the skirt and the crop top, plus now you can add slacks. You can add variety to your staple crop top and increase the number of wearings by changing up the colour of the piece underneath. These blouses can be found in lots of places but the neck line should match the shape of the neckline on the crop top. On this lovely outfit you can also do up a couple of buttons on the pea coat, remove the collar and add a varietal scarf, in similar colour palette or contrasting! This is a great basic outfit, you are right on re spanx leotards. Your eye is perfect.

Thank you so much Cheryl for your kind words! And you are so right adding a long white blouse would be a great way to transition the lace crop blouse to other looks - might have to test it out :)
