Or the difference between Brocade, Jacquard and Damask.
Truly I never really worried if there was a difference between Jacquard, Brocade and Damask but when I was researching different options for these fancy pants seen below I realized I didn’t really know what each of these terms meant and apparently most retailers don’t either!
Clockwise from the top:
1. J.Crew Cafe animal-jacquard Capri pants
2. ASOS Burgundy Floral Jacquard Pants
3. RED Valentino Metallic brocade shorts
4. TOPSHOP Dark Floral Trousers By Boutique
5. Elizabeth and James Brocade Winston Pant
6. Vivienne Westwood Anglomania Cosmopolitan brocade tulip mini skirt
7. TOPSHOP Chinoiserie Jacquard Cigarette Trousers (my faves)
Jacquard is often used to describe a fabric but it is actually technique or loom that Brocade and Damask (and others) are created upon. Damask is a Jacquard weave with one fiber, whereas Brocade is a Jacquard weave with 2 or more fibers.
Regardless of what they are called, I was looking into printed pants that would have more staying power than printed denim and would be party appropriate. All of these bottoms would work for Christmas gatherings and dressed down with a denim top. That and this Brocade clutch though out of my budget is amaze-balls.
What do you wear for fancy pants?
