Sezane reworked their Achille cardigan into a somewhat less oversized version. This little brother as they call it is the Basile cardigan. Sharing what I love and if this sweater should make an appearance in your closet in my Sezane Basile Cardigan Review.
Sezane Basile Cardigan Review
The Basile Cardigan is an alpaca wool blend sweater with beaded rib knitting. It has a v neckline and tone on tone buttons. Although my buttons are tortoise shell as opposed to tone one tone like the coloured sweaters. The sleeves are long and slightly ballooned.
This sweater is basically a v neck version of the Emile Cardigan. It is a chunky knit with a fluffy texture from the alpaca content. It is softer than the Sezane sweaters with mohair. The alpaca blend also leaves this chunky knit feeling lightweight instead of heavy. That said you do have to be aware of what coat you layer it under as it won’t fit under slim fitting coats.
This sweater can be worn open or closed. What I love is that there is loads of room through the body to treat this sweater almost like a button front shirt.
Size wise I went with the Large and it is very relaxed fit. In fact I don’t really notice much in the way of size difference between this sweater in Large and the Emile in extra large. Without comparing the sweaters in great detail I would just assume they are the same size. My original premise of getting the Emile in extra large was to ensure the sweater would fit loose and relaxed. But the Large also fits that way so I would say stick with your usual size and size down if you want a more fitted style. I would have to go down to a medium to get a more fitted look.
If I had to chose one style, Basile vs Emile, I prefer the crew neck of the Emile. They are both super soft and cozy but I prefer the higher neckline. And as much as I love stripes I think I prefer this sweater in a punchy colour with the tone on tone buttons. For stripes sweaters I prefer my Trudy and James sweater.
Even though I prefer the Emile I know I will get loads of wear out of this sweater. The soft alpaca knit is super warm and it will be a knit that I reach for repeatedly through the colder months.
