Sezane Luc Sweater Review

The Luc sweater is basically the Lucas sweater but with the cotton switched out for alpaca. There are a few other tweaks but for all intents and purposes this is the all wool version of the Lucas jumper. I really wasn’t sure I wanted to try this style again but I am so glad I did. Sharing my Sezane Luc Sweater Review to explain why that is.

Sezane Luc Sweater Review

As I said above the Luc is the all wool version of the Lucas Sweater. Well wool and alpaca blend vs wool and cotton blend. I found the Lucas to feel a bit stiff because of the cotton content. The Luc does not feel that way at all. It is softer and has more ease and drape to it comparatively.

It is thicker than I thought it would be. I was expecting with the alpaca content that it would feel light more like the Trudy. But it is a chunkier knit than that sweater.

Another difference in the Luc is the knit is more basic. It does not have the beaded rib knit that the Lucas has, it is just plain old knit and purl. This give it a cleaner, smoother look.

The final big difference is that it is not as cropped. The original versions of the Lucas had a 54 cm length from the shoulder whereas the Luc is 57 cms for the same measurement. There does seem to be some inconsistency in that there are some colourways for the Lucas that are 56.5 cms. Perhaps the newer colours are longer? Either way the Luc is a longer knit, not just in the body but the sleeves are also quite long.

The slightly high neck and button placket at the front are the same and it is the defining feature of both sweaters. I really like the neckline on this sweater. You get the warmth of a higher neck without the constriction of a turtleneck. And if you are warm just unbutton and open up!

I think the front placket sticks out so much more because of the more plain knit on the body of the Luc. It really pops!

Size wise I got an extra large. I got the Lucas in the large and even though it did not feel tight on me at all it did not look how I wanted it to. I think most of that is due to the cropped length. Still I feel much happier in the extra large Luc.

So why did I try the Luc sweater after giving the Lucas to my daughter? I was drawn in by the multicolour knit. I always loved the neckline and front buttons which I think stand out better here. I much prefer the composition of the Luc sweater. The alpaca wool mix is softer and less stiff. Overall I much prefer the Luc.

What do you think of the Sezane Luc Sweater review? Which one would you choose?

I really like the neckline & buttons as well. Do you find the material itchy? I think I'd need to wear something inside.

I always wear a t-shirt or tank top underneath my knits. You can't see it here but I am wearing a u neck tee under the sweater in this post. If it is really cold here I would wear a long sleeve tee to layer up. This keeps the knit from rubbing up directly against the body. I do not find the material itchy. This is a merino wool and alpaca wool blend. Both of these are more soft than itchy. I find the mohair knits more itchy than this sweater. Unless the wool is lambswool or some other lower quality wool I am pretty tolerant itch wise. But I think a lot of that is because I do wear a cotton tee under my knits and don't wear them right against my body.
