Sezane Othello Cardigan Review

Sezane cardigans have completely revamped the way I think about cardigans. The Othello cardigan is no different. This alpaca option is is a gorgeous knit that feels light and soft and warm but also delicate and pretty. Sharing my Sezane Othello cardigan review to share why this sweater should be on your radar.

Sezane Othello Cardigan Review

The Sezane Othello Cardigan is a Made in Italy alpaca knit. It is the cardigan version of the Otis jumper (reviewed here) and Amiel crewneck. All of these sweaters are made of alpaca and have the same delicate cable knit details at the hems and cuffs.

The Otis and Othello are more obviously similar as they also have the cable knit detail at the armholes and have a more ribbed texture.

I got this knit in an XXL. This is the first time I have ordered this size for a Sezane knit and to be honest it fits similarly to what an XL would have in the past. In the current size chart an XXL is a 44 which is supposed to translate to a US 12. Previously there was more of a range that the L or XL fit. The older size chart had a Large fitting a size 8 – 12 and a XL was a 10 -12. There is a larger size range now to going all the way up to a French 48 or size 16 and down to an XXS.

Just to give perspective I got the Otis in a size Large (before the new size chart) and it doesn’t fit significantly differently. Perhaps the Othello is a bit looser across the belly. In fact when I laid a bunch of my Sezane sweaters out I found this sweater fit smaller than the Emile in XL and larger than the Kethy in XL.

Nevertheless now that the knitwear size chart translates to a particular size instead of a range I will likely stick with the 44 or 12 unless something fits very oversized and the sizing recommendation is to size down.

The Othello cardigan comes in a range of colours although it does tend to sell out quickly. I fell for the beautiful buttons and the darker pink colour but so did many others. This sweater does come off as a bit more polished or mature than say the Emile or even the Othello styles that don’t have the “fancy” buttons.

Overall I really like this sweater. I am a sucker for alpaca though. It is such a soft and lightweight knit. The buttons make this sweater a bit retro. It would look more pretty casual paired with jeans but I paired it with some striaight leg cords because that is how I will wear the sweater to work.
