I recently picked up the Sperry White Water Duck Boot as an update to my winter boots. As someone who grew up through the 90’s I have owned duck boots before, but back then the pair I had were likely knock offs and they were the low variety. More for walking around at the cottage in the spring and fall as opposed to something for winter.
I fell for this style of boot from all the JCREW Sperry Collaborations. I loved the fun colour combinations but I didn’t love the inflated price tag.
Instead I picked up this pair. I was drawn to the faux fur detail but something was missing. I compared them with the JCREW versions that had drawn me to the style in the first place and it was the red. Red laces, red soles; the pop of red made all the difference. So I picked up some red laces and switched them out for the leather laces that came with the boot.
Sperry White Water Duck Boot Review
So first off I am loving the look of the boots. When I look down they just look cool. They are tall enough to walk through some modest snow banks but not so tall that you are going to need an instruction book on how to get your work pants to tuck into them every morning.
They are lightweight making them great for walking and the rubber sole means that slush has got nothing on these boots.
They are lined with fleece however they aren’t as warm as say my Sorel’s or my Uggs. You can definitely feel the cold not so much on the sole but on the toe and top of the foot when you have snow or extreme temperatures.
I would argue that these boots are mild winter boots. Great for weather from about 6 degrees Celsius to minus 10 Celsius. For extreme cold you would have to switch to something warmer or invest in a shearling boot liner.
I have had Sorel’s before and what has held me back from ordering another pair is that they are a bit unyeilding and heavy to wear. My Uggs are warm without the weight but they do not work in wet slushy snow at all. The Sperry White Water Duck Boot is a happy compromise.
What did you think of the Sperry White Water Duck Boot Review? Would you buy a pair?
