When I started blogging my daughter was in infant. Now she is 9 and helping with posts. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? Anyhoo I have noticed in the past year that her preference in terms of style has changed quite a bit. Less pink, less dresses, more purple and unicorns. She would never wear jeans before now she is into them so long as they are the pull on style. All of the stuff in this post was picked out by an actual tween who is starting grade 4. This is the tween girl back to school wish list.
Tween Girl Back to School Wish List
- Girls Ruffled sleeve tee – I love a ruffle sleeve detail and I actually bought the stripe version for my daughter. Ssshhhh don’t tell as it is for back to school.
- Girls graphic tee – This isn’t something I would have picked out personally but that is why it is great to get the perspective from our kids. It gives us insight into what they like without our influence.
- Girls Bomber jacket – this is another one I wouldn’t have thought my daughter would like because well it is navy. But she saw the emoji face and the plush interior and was all heart eyes.
- Long Sleeve Tunic – I have always been a fan of navy and pink together. This is a bit sporty but still girly.
- Jegging – I like to call these gateway jeans. They give the look of jeans without the stiffness and the easy pull on style. To be honest I am surprised she picked any other style!
- Rainbow headphones – How fun are headphones these days? And kids need them for school because of all the computer based learning they do in class. Having a fun pair like this means that kids don’t get confused with whose pair belongs to whom.
- High waisted skinny jeans – Simple black jeans that go with everything? That’s my girl.
- Light wash jeans – A light wash pair of jeans are perfect for back to school for that transition from indian summer weather to true fall.
- Overalls – these are another item I never thought my daughter would go for but when I asked her about them she really thought they would be cool. I know back in highschool I loved my overalls too so hey she should have a go at this trend right?
- Hightop skate shoes – it is this time of year I start looking for a pair of sneakers for every day use at school. Hightops are a funky option.
- Pineapple pencil case – It would be boring to just have a regular pencil case right?
- Glitter Boot – These are so fun! Not just because of the glitter but the star elastic for easy on and off.
- Multicolour erasers – I don’t stock up on everything every year. Erasers seem to come in big enough packs that I can go a few years between stocking up. These are fun because of all the colours.
- Rainbow slip on sneakers – I know why my daughter picked these. Sparkly rainbow! I don’t usually pick this style of shoe for my kids though because they tend to fit perfectly for a very small window. Otherwise they slip off constantly or are too small. This style of shoe is better for adults where our foot size doesn’t change so frequently.
- New Balance sneakers – I would have bought these for my daughter in a heartbeat if they still had her size! New Balance sneakers are good quality and comfy.
- Mermaid backpack – kids backpacks are so fun aren’t they? This one is a good size. Not too big but still big enough for all the essentials. Mermaids are almost as cool as unicorns in this house.
- Unicorn Lunch Bag – have we maid this years theme painfully obvious yet? I am thinking that before the tween years are over unicorns will be so over too.
- Unicorn Notebook – To be honest I want one of these too! How cute is this notebook?
- Purple scissors – our kitchen scissors could use a break so having some dedicated kid craft scissors is a must.
- Mechanical pencils – my kids think mechanical pencils are so cool but to be honest I don’t send them to school. Regular pencils are just easier to manage and are more environmentally friendly.
- Markers – is it just me or do markers always seem to need to be replaced? Washable markers are a must.
- Sequin notebook – just put sequins on everything and kids will be happy mmmmk?
- Colour glue – who knew glue was so boring back in the day? Now it is so colourful. There is even glow in the dark glue!
There are only a couple more weeks before back to school. Heck some kids are already back! I actually like shopping for most of our back to school after we are back in school. Summer clothes will get us through the first few weeks and then I will have a good sense of what my kids actually need. Letters will come home from the teachers and we should have a better idea about what clothes still fit.
What are you buying for back to school? Do you have a tween girl back to school wish list in your house?
