Ulla Johnson is known for her modern bohemian style clothing. Pulling from global references Ulla Johnson’s designs embrace print and ruffles. The fabrics are usually natural fibers like cotton and silk. The beautiful prints are matched with great fit. This Ulla Johnson Dress review will share why I went into my order thinking I would probably return the dress but ended up looking for more.
Ulla Johnson Dress Review
I was having a time with my shopping. I was sending everything back and was so disappointed with everything I was ordering. The fit just didn’t make sense on so many things. I thought maybe if I spend more I could get better fit. But I didn’t really think that spending $500 on a dress that wasn’t an event dress made much sense. The fit and feel of the dress couldn’t really be that much better could it?
I had found loads of great dresses for much less. But they were always a unicorn. Something that you found amongst the mediocre options. The once or twice in a season find. Not exactly something you could count on. I wanted something I could know if I go here I will get something great. So I ordered the dress.
I was prepared to send the dress back and expected that the size 12 would fit too small for my curves like so many other brands. I also expected to think that the dress wasn’t really worth the price.
Boy, was I wrong on both counts.
The fabric is super soft cotton viscose blend. The cotton dresses are much more on the affordable end of the price range when it comes to Ulla Johnson dresses. The silk dresses can be over $1000 CAD. Cotton dresses are in the $400 and up range.
So why did I decide to keep this Ulla Johnson dress? The print is lovely. The vine motif is pretty obvious but when you get up close there is almost a leopard print in there as well. The cotton blend is very soft. It is a very wearable length. I can wear it to the office or out for dinner. I also like that it isn’t too low cut or there aren’t buttons popping everywhere. This is a size 12 dress that has been cut to accommodate boobs and curves. I don’t have to wear a minimizer bra to make it work. I don’t have to wear shapewear either and I like how the dress fits when I am showing bare arms.
Yes it is expensive. I have found great cotton dresses for under $100 (like this, this or this). But the fit is nowhere as nice and the detail is much more minimal than compared with this dress. So if you are on the fence thinking is that Ulla Johnson dress worth it? I would say yes.
Size wise I have seen Ulla Johnson dresses go up to size 16 or an XL however not all retailers carry beyond a size 10. The larger sizes do tend to sell out quickly. Shopbop or shopping directly from Ulla Johnson seems to be the places that you can get the full size range. You can find limited sizes on the Outnet too.
What do you think about the Ulla Johnson Dress Review? It is this a brand you have been looking to try?
