What a dream it would be to have an image in your head and the ability to sketch it out on paper and then watch it come to life on the catwalk. For students in the Fanshawe College’s fashion design program, this was not just a dream but a reality. I had the honour of being able to attend their launch party on behalf of torontoShopoholic for their Unbound 2014 show. The show will be taking place on April 12, 2014 at Museum London. It will showcase and promote recent graduates and unveil their 2015 spring collections. The event will also help expose their designs to the general public and the fashion industry.
What made this experience extra special was the fact that they were mentored by home grown Canadian fashion designer David Dixon, who was also in attendance. As I listened to some of the students speak about their mentor, it was apparent that he was very hands on, and an extremely inspirational figure to them. They also spoke very highly about the program and their teachers. The evening was filled with unique appetizers, wine and socializing and by the end of it, I was very tempted to drop out of my Master’s program in nursing and move to London to enroll in either their fashion or interior design program.
Until then, I am quite pleased to watch from the side lines and from previewing some of the student’s work, I’m excited to see the final product. If you are interested in seeing the show or finding out more information about the event please visit their website.
