Universal Standard is a size inclusive company that wants the world to rethink sizing. The average woman is currently a size 18 and Universal standard uses this as their standard medium. I have a few different pairs of jeans from this company and I find that their sizing is so much more forgiving for curvy bodies. When I wanted a new spring jacket I fell for this parka in plum. Sharing my Universal Standard Precision Parka Review.
Universal Standard Precision Parka Review
The Universal Standard Precision Parka is a spring rain jacket made of water resistant fabric. The fabric is a bit thicker than other non rubberized raincoats I have (like this or this). I have the deep pansy colour which is a plum colour. It also comes in black, blue, green and yellow.
The bungee cord at the waist allows you to wear the jacket cinched or loose.
The hood is deep and has a wire rim that allows for the hood to maintain its shape better than any other raincoat I own.
There are a number of features that are added to this jacket to survive rainy weather. The storm flaps, and storm collar are there to enhance the weather resistance of the jacket.
There are also some options that are for ease of movement. The side vent snaps and bungee waist.
The zipper zips up to a high neck. When the hood is up you can also snap the storm collar.
All of these make for a super functional jacket.
Size wise I am wearing the small. Universal Standard sizing uses a US 18 as the standard for a medium. Which means straight sizes are small, extra small and below. And there is size inclusivity up to size 40.
Fit wise I feel this jacket is true to size but a streamlined fit. I have room for light layers but I would not fit chunky knits under this coat. If you are looking for loose and oversized I would size up. That being said spring is when we aren’t wearing as many heavy layers so chances are it is best to stay with your usual size.
I find this coat slightly snug across the bum when I wear it looser. Which seems a bit counter intuitive. But when I have it cinched more at the waist it seems to bump out the fabric across the bum for more room. That said the side vent snaps can accommodate this as well. I do like how the jacket dips lower at the back for more coverage.
I definitely recommend this spring jacket. It feels like a better version of this jacket that is no longer made. It is a great option for travel if you like traveling in the off season and temperatures are varied.
Are you looking for a spring jacket this season?
