Veja Sneakers Review
Veja is known for a certain look. The white sneaker with the navy v. It is a minimal sneaker that has a cool girl vibe. While that white and navy combo is their most popular combo there are actually many styles of Veja from casual sneakers to actual running shoes. There are the retro looking V-10s to the court sneakers like the Esplar and Campo. Some of the sneakers are organic cotton others are leather or the recycled knit styles. The white and navy combo might be the most ubiquitous style but Veja doesn’t shy away from pastels, neons and other bold primary colours.

Sizing
When I ordered my first Vejas I assumed that it was European sizing which I am usually a 39. But when I got the Veja V-10s I couldn’t figure out what all the fuss was about. They were huge and clunky. I sent them back immediately. Turns out Veja’s run large, particularly for North American customers. Part of it is the conversion. Italian sizes and French sizes are not exactly the same. I am used to a 39 being about a US 8.5. Italian shoes usually fit narrow so I size up to fit the width of my feet. Vejas only have whole sizes. A 39 fits more like a US 9. But the Veja size chart has a 39 listed as a US 8. I would say their conversion to US is just wrong. Also Veja sneakers don’t fit narrow like an Italian loafer would. I was much happier with a 38. I also gave up on the Veja V10s and went for the Veja Campo which is a court sneaker.
Comfort
I can only speak to the comfort of the Veja Campo sneakers. Supposedly this is a style with softer leather. One of the things that people complain about with Vejas is that the leather is stiff and requires a break in period. For me the Veja Campos were comfortable out of the box. However with wear there has been some give and stretch making them more comfortable. I also didn’t have the issue with the tongue that so many have talked about. The shoe tongue is stiff on other styles and can cut into the ankle. So far I have had zero issues with any blisters or rubbing anywhere. There is cushioning at the heel and on the tongue. The foot bed doesn’t have cushioning but the rubber sole provides a firm base. This gives the shoes a supportive feel.
Should you buy Veja sneakers?
Veja sneakers are an eco friendly and socially responsible sneaker. They have captivated the fashion set and are considered an IT girl sneaker. But none of that really matters if they aren’t comfortable. I have been wearing the Veja Campo nonstop and I can confirm that that they are comfortable and supportive out of the box. I didn’t have the stiff and rubbing issue with the shoe tongue. If you are looking for a sneaker to wear with casual looks I would recommend Veja, especially if you are looking to shop more socially conscious, sustainable brands.
