I am still surprised that something as simple as wearing black and brown together still is a thing. I mean print mixing and colour blocking clashing colours has been all over the fashion world in recent years so black and brown should be a no brainer. Here is how I know it works because it occurs in nature. Look at the cheetah, the leopard, even look at fallen leaves in a forest. All of these are a mixture of black and brown that looks classic.
I wanted to show black and brown together in an outfit in more than one way to show that it does work. So the first look has brown (ok more like a tan colour) pant with black on top, black boots and a bag that pulls everything together.
The second look is pretty much the flip, with black jeans and shades of brown put together. The Clare V foldover clutch pulls it all together.
Another reason you can always trust that you can wear black and brown together is that they are both neutrals, and as Clinton & Stacey always said “Neutrals go with everything!”. It means this combo with be a no fail always work outfit.
I think if I was going to recreate this outfits again I would be more likely to wear black boots with my black jeans to elongate the look but I really like how both of these outfits turned out in the end.
Outfit 1: Black Bomber jacket Zara (old – similar), black tee Gap, khaki jeans Yoga jeans, necklace DIY by me, bag Foley + Corinna (old – other styles here), boots (on sale!)
Outfit 2: Conac leather jacket Danier (old), brown sweater JCREW Factory (on sale!), black jeans Yoga Jeans (seriously addicted!), boots Madewell, foldover leopard clutch Clare V.
Hopefully these two outfits have made you rethink some things in your closet and want to pair neutrals like black and brown together in an outfit instead of having outfits that go with black and outfits that go with brown. They go together, just like pink and red, black and navy and so many more combos that were once forbidden!
How do you wear black and brown together? Or do you keep them separate?
