Last week I retired the name torontoShopoholic. I started building my original Toronto Shopping website back in 2009 when my daughter was only a few months old. She is now 7.5! I added a personal style blog to the brand after the birth of my son in 2011 and he is turning 5 this week. I have been at this blogging game for a while.
When I picked my original blog name I thought it was a fun combination. It wasn’t my way of admitting any shopping addiction (although that might be a matter of perspective according to my husband!!). At the time I never imagined that we would leave Toronto. At the time the name was exactly what I identified with.
Then in 2014 we sold our Toronto house and moved west of the city. At that time I thought I would be back in Toronto on the regular and I would of course have lots of time to update my site. Of course I was wrong. I had gone from being a stay at home mom to a working mom and we rarely made it back into Toronto.
For a while I thought it made sense to stick wit the brand I had taken years to create. What did it matter if I changed my name? But the longer I was away from Toronto and the more outdated some of my Toronto specific content got it made less sense to stay stagnant and unchanging.
I became to identify less and less with torontoShopoholic. It wasn’t about shopping more it was supposed to be about shopping for a purpose, shopping smarter. Buying quality and something you love not something you will throw away after one season. I also didn’t identify with the city of Toronto any longer, now having been out of the area for over two years. It wasn’t about a certain look for a certain city, it was about being chic wherever, whenever you are.
Chic Everywhere
The final straw was when Mode media shut down abruptly. It was one of the reasons I was holding off shutting down my original Toronto shopping website and migrating the rest of the content to a new url. I had just been approved for a project the day before and was waiting to hear if I would be working with Nordstrom through the holiday season. I was postponing this change to a quiet time for the blog but not a quiet time for my day job.
So when the excuses ran out I knew it was time. It was time to update the torontoShopoholic brand that was more universal, more in tune with where I was in my life and where it was going in the future.
This website has never really been about hyper trendy items. I want to look good where ever I am no matter the age and that is what chic everywhere is all about.
