It is that time of year that many of us in northern North America start dreaming of a beach vacation. Whether you go the all inclusive route or not basking in the sun for a week is a great break to the cold that seems to last forever January through March. If I was leaving next week this is what I would pack for a week at the beach.
What to pack for a week at the beach
- Ischia Bandeau Swimsuit – If you only pack one thing for your beach vacation make it bathing suits. I usually pack in the range of 3 to 5 bathing suits. I find things take a long time to dry out in a tropical country. Also there are days where I might switch at lunch into a dry bathing suit for lunch so that I am not sitting in the wet. I love these styles that you can tan with no straps but can add the straps for extra support when you are swimming or walking around.
- Curved brim natural straw hat – One sure fire way to keep yourself safe from the sun is to pack a large brim hat. Of course you need sunscreen too but a big hat gives extra protection.
- Airheart Sunglasses – Sunglasses are another must pack item in my opinion. The sun is so intense in these tropical locations.
- Sidestroke one piece – Like I said above pack all the swim suits. I love how flattering this one is and it comes in so many pretty colour options.
- Belted Midi Dress – I love wearing dresses for dinner when I go somewhere tropical. Not only is it fun to dress up for dinner every night but it also is a great way to stay cool. I would pack 4 – 7 different dresses for a week beach vacation.
- Cotton Button down – If you aren’t into dresses you can create really chic looks with a cotton or linen button down shirt. They also work as a cover up in a pinch. I love how pretty this one is but I also like a classic stripe.
- Cotton Beach Trousers – I have shown these easy pull on pants with a blouse for dinner but you could easily just pull them on over your bathing suit to wander your resort or go for lunch. I love packing things that I can wear to dinner one night and then reuse at the pool.
- Long Sleeve Beach Shirt dress – This is a great cover up if you want more protection. Or roll up the sleeves for a relaxed vibe. It also comes in a classic blue stripe if you aren’t into colour.
- Lexi Snake Sandals – Of course you need some sandals for your beach vacation. I like something simple like this for day. A slip on espadrille is also a good option. I usually don’t pack more than 3 pairs of shoes plus something comfy for the plane.
- Alohas cross strap sandal – In the last few years I have packed fewer heels and just lots of fun flat sandals. Resorts are so big that you can end up doing alot of walking for dinner so cute flat sandals are a great option even for evening. Wedge or platform espadrilles are another walkable choice.
- Bateau Tote Bag – A beach bag is a must for a tropical vacation because you need to lug towels and books and sunscreen from your room to your lounger every day. I also pack a fun clutch or two for evening to carry my lipstick and room key to dinner. If you are looking for a large tote try this or this or this.

Of course you will also need to pack your toiletries, your underwear and your carry on bag. If you are bringing your kids along you might also want to pack a beach ball, some floaties and some diving sticks. Yes you can pick up these things while you are there but they will be EXPENSIVE.
Pack ear plugs if you are a light sleeper and any medication you need. At the very least we pack advil for the family. Sunscreen and anything to treat burns.
If you are going on excursions you might also want to pack shorts and tees and runners. Even a sports bra might come in handy too depending how active you are.
But if you are like me and just want to read by the pool skip packing those things as they will just take up space.
What is top of your list when you decide what to pack for a week at the beach?
