Last year at this time we were touring Prague, Vienna and Budapest. Early fall is a great time to visit Europe because the summer crowds have dwindled and it isn’t too hot. No one wants to suffer through a heat wave with no air conditioning! Packing for fall touring adds a bit of complexity in that it can be cool requiring warm layers or you could end up with days of Indian Summer weather. This is what to pack for Budapest in Fall.
What to Pack for Budapest in Fall
- Joules Waterproof Hooded Jacket – This is the exact jacket I wore when I was in Budapest. It was great for cool mornings and the hood is nice and deep for days when it is raining. I love the stripe.
- Quilted Downtown Field Jacket – When we were touring Budapest this quilted type of jacket could be seen on all the stylish city dwellers.
- Wool Blend Wrap Coat – A wrap coat is a great option if you know you will be facing colder temperatures. It looks chic without really trying. Now I don’t think that you need to pack three different coats but a rain coat and one other option is great depending on what you expect for weather. Make sure to wear your heaviest coat on the plane.
- Cashmere Turtleneck – I like turtlenecks especially for colder days because it is like having a built in scarf.
- Everyday Cashmere stripe crewneck – I just really like the color combination on this camel striped cashmere. It would be a great layering option or lightweight enough to stuff in your backpack just in case.
- Tissue Turtleneck – I love these turtlenecks because they are really lightweight and great for layering. Wear one just under a jacket or if it gets colder under a sweater and a coat.
- Toothpick jean in new black – Black jeans are great because they can be dressed up very easily. These jeans have the perfect about of weight and stretch.
- Trouser jean in classic rinse – I am falling back in love with trouser jeans, they do look polished for more body types.
- Toothpick jean in point lake wash – of course you need a true blue pair of jeans. Three pairs is more than enough for a week to a week and a half away.
- Wool Fedora – a great item to have when you want to avoid a bad hair day, to hide from the rain or cold.
- Sneakers – if there is one pair of shoes to pack when travelling it is a pair of sneakers. Pounding the pavement all day requires comfy footwear.
- Yale Chelsea Boot – I have a pair of these boots and they are a pair of my most comfortable. They are great because there isn’t much of a heel so perfect for lots of walking.
- Vincent Calf Hair Backpack – When sight seeing all day you need a bag that can carry essentials like water and cameras and snacks. This backpack is super chic too and won’t look like you are a tourist and can double as a purse.
I haven’t mentioned packing a dress in this what to pack for Budapest in fall guide because I find that they really aren’t necessary. Unless you know you will be going somewhere formal I wouldn’t bother.
I would however pack at least 5 t-shirts to be used for layering and in case you have to dress for a bit of a heatwave. I like these or these or these.
What to pack for Budapest in Fall is best used for trips where you are experiencing true fall temperatures. Because fall is a transition season it is always best to layer up or down to manage the temperatures. Pack a rain jacket or sweater or pack it away in your back pack if you are too hot. While I love fall it can be tricky to dress for especially since when sight seeing you can do more walking than you usually would and work up a sweat!
