Packing your carry on is like deciding what your most favourite toys are as a child. The special things that you keep close by your side for the plane journey whilst the rest of your luggage gets packed in the belly of the plane. It can be tough to narrow down exactly what you need, especially if you are fearful of the airline will lose your luggage. This is what to pack in your carry on for Mexico.
What to pack in your carry on for Mexico
- Tipi Pouch – When I am travelling to a warmer climate, one where I tend to stay at an all inclusinve I ditch my regular bag and switch it out for a clutch. I don’t need my full wallet instead I can pack my passport, flight tickets and itinerary in the pouch. Make sure to include an additional form of identification, a travel credit card and some cash. I also make sure to have pictures of all my travel documents on my phone and copies at home with loved ones just in case.
- Caracas Tote – When I am travelling somewhere warm I prefer to use a tote that can double as a beach bag for my carry on. It saves space in my luggage and makes more sense than using a leather tote that just sits in your room all week.
- Clark Cashmere Wrap – Airplanes are cold. And yet I see so many people dressed for summer when I fly somewhere warm. Skip the shorts, at least for the beginning of the flight. For the duration you need warmer layers.
- Le Cord USB – Cords for devices are super important. Don’t let your ipad or ebook power down part way through the flight. Most airplanes have been updated to include usb power outlets in the back of your seat so that at the very least you can maintain your charge throughout the flight.
- Triple C Power Card Ultra Thin Charger – On my last flight the outlets on the plane didn’t actually charge my phone but they did keep it from draining. Packing a batter pack means that you can actually recharge devices on the flight.
- Snacks – Flights are drying experiences. When we make it through security I always buy a big bottle of water. I am not a fan of chewing gum so I use mentos instead to keep my ears from any pain during the assent and descent. Depending on how no frills our flight is we might also buy more food for the actual flight.
- Panama Hat – If you are not confident about packing your hat in your luggage, take it along on the flight. I don’t actually stuff mine in my carry on but wear it to the plane, place it under my seat (on top of my carry on) and wear it off the plane again.
- Sony Alpha a5000 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 16-50mm OSS Lens – do not, I repeat, do not pack your camera away in your luggage. It could be stolen, it could get broken. Better to keep it with you. Also better to take epic cloud pictures or those first shots as you see land again.
- Kobo Glo HD – I used to pack a couple of novels in my carry on and the rest in my luggage. I now just pack my Kobo and have access to as many novels as I want. SO.MUCH.BETTER.
- Grease Relief™ Cleansing Cloths: Oil-Free Pore Refining – I hate that greasy feeling my face gets after flying for hours. These cleansing cloths will do the trick to get refreshed. Not into all the garbage they produce? Why not just pack a washable face cloth and head to the bathroom for some hot water?
- Bathing Beauty One-Piece Swimsuit in Tropical – hopefully you never have to deal with this but Heaven forbid if your luggage gets lost you still want to be able to sit by the pool. I also want to be able to go to dinner so I tend to pack a change of warm weather clothes.
Did these make your what to pack in your carry on for Mexico list? Would you pack something different?

Love the idea of carrying a wrap on the plane! I'm always so freaking cold and end up wearing tons of layers to make up for it.

Totally makes sense to bring one along right? And it can be arranged like a blanket if you are going to be sleeping too.
