I have been buying my kids some new things for back to school. A mixture of summer sale finds and new fall things that fit better. I have one kid starting high school and the other is in middle school. I don’t do a huge shop at this time of year because the first month of school at least it will still be summerish weather. I will top up their wardrobes again closer to Christmas for more winter things. Sharing what we are buying for back to school so far.
Back to School Middle School Boys
As you can see for my son we are sticking with sporty and it still skews a bit towards summer. We did go through his closet and edited out all the things that were too small. And while there was quite a bit he does have loads that still fits as I tend to buy things big in the hopes we will get lots of wear out of it.
Active tee – This was a clearance find. These are great if you have a sporty kid who wants to wear their sporty clothes all the time.
MLB Graphic tee – this is my son’s favourite from what I bought. Not on clearance but marked down for back to school. This brands tees are really soft so they are always well loved. I hope they do one for hockey teams too.
Airknit shorts – Another clearance find. These shorts are very soft and comfortable. I actually picked up an extra pair for the future as they were a deal and we will be into growth spurt territory soon.
Jeans – These jeans are so soft. And they still have an adjustable waist which is a big issue for us. The waist never fits when the length does so having the ability to cinch the waist is great. Some brands don’t have that once they get into pre teen sizes and the waists are so large! Another clearance find and loads of sizes.
Sweats – my son is still into sweatpants before jeans. And I feel like they are less of a no no for older kids like they were when I was their age. These are super stretchy and good for smaller slim bodies.
Runners – We always get a new pair of sneakers. I tend to buy a half size up so that we have some room for growth. These are on sale too.
Back to School Teen Girls
We also did a big clear out for my daughter. We got rid of the last of her more juvenile stuff and sweaters that were too small. She is trying out some new silhouettes like wider leg pants.
Tees – we filtered out some too small tees and replaced them with a few of these. Personally I find these a bit too high on the neck but my daughter loves them. She got the dark green which is more of a dark teal and a navy. Adult womens clothes really don’t have enough colour for my daughter’s liking – too many shades of beige and other neutrals.
Merino sweater – my daughter really likes these thin knit sweaters. We had to get rid of one that had pulls and was too small. She replaced it with this in the wine colour.
Wide leg jeans – up until recently my daughter was a big fan of the pull on style jeans which you can easily find for little kids but are harder to find for tweens and adults. But we found this and this. But now that she is starting high school and wide leg jeans are in we are trying out this style. I think she is still a bit more fond of a straight leg with less volume (like these) now is a good time to experiment!
Cargo pants – Cargos are back! And while I am not one to try this style my daughter picked these out. We sized up based on the comments and I would recommend that. We also found these really long.
Black boots – up until now my kids wore there sneakers almost everywhere. Or sport sandals in the summer. If we needed shoes for an event we would buy some but it wasn’t like they had a full shoe wardrobe. Kids grow out of shoes so fast so it seemed silly to buy shoes that would get little or no wear. But with high school approaching and a shoe size that seems locked in for now anyways black boots seemed like a good idea. These turned out to be a great option.
Sneakers – sneakers aren’t going away, they just won’t be the main shoe worn most of the time. These were my daughters pick who has loved purple for years now. They are on sale.
